Re: hmmm
Mar 19 2007  on content Stop managing ALL icons

obviously there should be OS icons that are consistent throughout every application.

The suggestion is that the icon of the program itself (for example the Firefox icon) should not be included in icon sets.Take a look at this icon set to see what I mean:

http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/Glassy+Icons?content=53682

Why spend time making icons for programs that already have icons? Concentrate on the OS icons (e.g. open dialog icons)

What are you talking about? tar.gz uses gzip compression, hence the .gz extension.
If you want better compression, use tar.bz2 (bzip)

Apr 5 2006  on content Smart Folders

I see no reason why it shouldnt be a GUI feature. Yes- it will mean that only KDE apps will be able to access the smart folders, but its better than waiting around for someone to create a filesystem that can handle it for now.
And OS X doesn't have smart folders. Only Spotlight, which leaves a bit to be desired.

strange phenomenom
Apr 5 2006  on content Simple/Expert modes

Who votes this idea as bad?! This is one of the most important things that needs to be addressed by linux if it is ever to be widely accepted by people who are not so computer literate.
Features are great, but not if you DON'T WANT (or need even) to use them.
Make "simple" mode default. Surely an advanced user will know where to change that setting!!!

finally a good idea
Apr 5 2006  on content Differentiate extensions from filenames

Yes - lets make sure people know what their files REALLY are, without being obtrusive.
Good idea.

It turns out

Interesting...
Feb 22 2006  on content gentle gnome mockup

First off, the theme is amazing. Why don't linux desktops look like that?!?!?! All of the ideas posted here seem to have these really beautiful themes, but no one seems to have written an engine to render them. We can only hope that a developer will take the time to turn this great artwork into a KDE / Gnome theme.
The menu integrated into the toolbar is an interesting idea, but goes against what most people are used to when it comes its position on the right hand side of the window. Also, how would this work with programs like Konqueror that have an INSANE amout of menu options?

Unconvinced
Feb 22 2006  on content Idea: Welding Window Edges

From a usability point of view, is this such a good idea? Which window is fixed to which and how do you unfix one.
Snapping great (as an option), welding not so great.
