Re: Re: doesn't work

You are not saying anything about the required version of dvdauthor in your README. Don't complain about me expecting it to work with any version of dvdauthor, especially if you are warning about the required version of another program (ImageMagick) the script is using but say nothing about dvdauthor.
And I wasn't complaining, only reporting about this. I corrected your script to work with my version of dvdauthor and got on.

My complain is that you are saying that your program is especially for authoring a DVD
"from one or more DVD compatible MPEG-2 files. It is designed to be very easy to use. All you need to do is add one or multiple files to the playlist and answer the questions that follow."
This is a gross misleading statement, because all the files have to be either PAL or NTSC and all have to be either 4:3 or 16:9. This isn't a restriction from dvdauthor or any other program but solely of your application and you should mention this very clear. I have authored quite a number of DVD with MPEG's in different formats - all one has to do is to put every different format in it's own titleset.

doesn't work
May 16 2006  on content KDE DVDAuthor Wizard

I tried it for the second time. Why is it unusable for me?
1. dvdauthor is used to check the files for MPEG2-compatibility. It's done with:
dvdauthor -o dir -f file
With my dvdauthor 0.6.12-alpha-2992 this gives an:
ERR: Must first specify -t, -m, or -x
So - if at all - it's only working for some versions of dvdauthor.

2. After correcting this, I wanted to do a DVD with some 20 clips, either in PAL or NTSC, with 4:3 and 16:9.
Building the menu, I got a message about an incompatible MPEG2-File. After inspecting the logfile. I found out that dvdauthor was called with an empty file argument. I have no explanation for this, because I didn't dare to correct more mistakes after finding a source-comment saying that it was'nt allowed to mix PAL oder NTSC-Files or 4:3 and 16:9.
I didn't test the app with only one or two MPEG - maybe it would work then.
All in all I had the impression, that someone is offering an app which works for him and his needs without mentioning any of the serious limitations it has.

Your mpeg misses some information that dvdauthor needs (or maybe isn't an mpeg in the correct format).

For a otherwise correct mpeg the solution is to remultiplex the file with:
mplayer -dumpfile mpegfile -dumpaudio audiofile;
mplayer -dumpfile mpegfile -dumpvideo videofile;
mplex -f 8 -o result audiofile videofile;
You can then process result with dvdauthor.

If the file isn't a mpeg or in the wrong format you need to recode the file first. Consult the excellent docs of mplayer http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/menc-feat-vcd-dvd.html
"Using MEncoder to create VCD/SVCD/DVD-compliant files"
