kde folks?

thanks.
just need to see what kde folks think about it, then...

we don't seem to have drawn their attention much with our "thinking"... :-)

Jul 4 2006  on content Common context menus for common objects

i have posted this a couple of times alread, but i haven't had any feedback.

perhaps this time...

MVC (Model, View, Controller)
applications have similar needs. open, close, quit, next, previous, save, ...be it a text file, a piece of code, a song, a picture, ... applications allow access to these actions through toolbars. and every app has its own. what if MVC was exploited and a "desktop" toolbar was made available?

on startup, apps would register as listeners and would register their behaviour. this "desktop" toolbar would then act on the active window/app.

this would save up a lot of space (and not only space) in each app and in the desktop as a whole.

possibly, other stuff may be implemented along the same lines... list of open files, bookmarks, search boxes, progress bars...

in my mind, this would be handy, 'cause the same action/feature/object would always be in the same place, would always look the same way, ...

of course apps should leave the freedom to choose between "inlined" features vs "nearlined".

what do you reckon?

.

Jun 28 2006  on content Better Usage of Titlebar

since this discussion about saving space originated after a post of mine...

i'll post again some brainstorming, related to this topic...

i just bumped into a post suggesting the same basic idea...with progress bars...

brainstorming, then
Jun 21 2006  on content think small and simple

i see your point, superstoned.
it's not easy.

i did some casual thinking.
and since this is the brainstorm forum, i'll just brainstorm.

Jun 11 2006  on content Kmail: Try next SMTP server, if Default does Fail!

have the very same problem.

i would suggest to detach the SMTP servers conf from the mail client all together.

a separate application, that docks in the system tray and that allows to switch the smtp server easily and quickly at a mouse click.

and this application gets its default from the network config profile that i loaded at boot.

that would be nice.
