| Just for clarity... Jun 14 2007 on content Consistent Removable Media Behaviour | By the way, I don't mind having device names and mount points! I even don't mind having a media:/ 'protocol', if the device naming is consistent and does work in a logical way. |
| ![.](/img/trans.gif) | | Re: er.. Jun 14 2007 on content Consistent Removable Media Behaviour | I'agree that it might be useful in some cases to have different behaviours. This would be no problem at all, if I could just define how I want removable media to be opened - as media:/ or as file:/ . But this isn't possible.
Don't you agree that it's kind of weird to have the same medium appear in various namings? (see screenshot) |

- I've never been talking about XP at all.
- No, it doesn't, nor does Vista.
I am using KDE, and you can be sure I wouldn't use if I'd consider any Windows better.
My concern was just to stop people from creating 'Vista-like' windecos, styles, wallpapers, icons or what ever. And that's not even for the potential legal trouble this might bring, but I just don't like the Win-style, and I like KDE as an individual Desktop.
You are right, it's not that we can do better than MS, because we already are doing better than they are. But we can do even better than we are today.
Cheers, Chip

And, to stay 'open' and 'free', maybe we could use the Creative Commons data from this project, which is currently growing up:

Maybe another KDE4 suggestion, how about it? |
| ![.](/img/trans.gif) | | creating images Jan 18 2007 on content KIO CD-DVD Image | This is a great idea, it avoids mounting images as a loop device as root.
It could handle just like zip files - click it and explore the filesystem below.
Another idea:
Creating an iso image of a medium could be integrated as well. This functionality is present in k3b, but only for cds/dvds. A right-click menu entry "create image from medium" would be nice. This could even be used to create images from, say, usb-sticks, floppies, hdds or what ever.
This can be done manually using dd, but dd is rather cryptic for beginners, and it is dangerous! Mixing up 'if=' and 'of=' or just forgetting a '/' can reliably turn your box into a brick ...

| ![.](/img/trans.gif) | | Cool Feb 1 2006 on content Show Extra info on Icon | Good idea, this saves us a lot of clicking or typing to get the amount of free disk space.
Of course, we want this, and of course, we want it with nice transparency :o)
The only thing that should really be taken care of is this: Do not our overload our beautiful icons!
Remember, there already is a mounted/unmounted symbol on top of each drive icon. This should be combined into your icon, otherwise the desktop might quickly look less clear.
Good work and great idea, it just has to be implemented carefully. |

| ![.](/img/trans.gif) | | Re: Re: kicker borde Jan 26 2006 on Discussion | Thanks for your hint.
Are you sure there isn't just some config file that could be changed? Maybe there was just another default value in the 3.5 RCs?
I guess I'm not going to 'downdate' KDE, I'd probably get this feature fixed but another 20 bugs back.
Again, Thanks.
