Or did you ask why I mentioned "German born"? That's because I'm a nice guy and wanted to share the genius with you and all Germans. Siegfried Marcus felt as an Austrian (if I may believe sources on the internet) and invented the car in Austria. But he was born in Germany and was of German origin. Enough for both of us to be proud, no? ;-) And in the end, if neither Marcus, nor Benz & Daimler had invented the car, we would still have it today. Some Spain, or Finn, or Suisse, or American, or ... would have invented it a few years later, anyway.

Servus from Vienna/Austria.

> Austria was part of Germany until 1871,

Austria was only part of Germany during the 3 Reich. And parts of it belonged to Bavaria before (Upper Austria: legally; Tyrol: occupied). Austria was certainly not part of Germany in 1871, when Germany didn't even exist (while Austria exists since more than 1000 years, apart from a few years when it only existed in the hearts of the brave Austrians). The "Holy Roman Empire" does not count as Germany, not even as its predecessor. It was rather a conglomerate of middle European kingdoms and archduchies and all that. There was no predominant kingdom, except at the end, when the Habsbuger became ... err ...ambitious. ;-)

> Why did you say "german-born jew"?

Because this was the reason the Nazis were keen to eradicate every trace of him as the real inventor of the car, and declared the "Aryans" Benz & Daimler the official inventors (who surely were geniuses on their own; they just didn't invent the car). I didn't mention Marcus' religion, because this made a difference for =me=. Actually, I don't care that much about religions. And I have no hostility towards jews or muslims or whatever. Au contraire. And I didn't want to start a nationalistic thread or something, either. It's just that Siegfried Marcus deserves some fame, too, when the invention of the car is praised.

Sorry, but the car was most likely =not= invented in Germany. That's a myth spread by the Nazis, because the true inventor, Siegfried Marcus, was a (German born) jew. He built the first car in Vienna, before Benz & Daimler. This car does still exist, because the people in the museum had it hidden behind a wall, when the Nazis came to destroy it. But never mind, to some degree the car is still a German invention ... :-)

Huh ... and with CVS/qt-copy from today (Qt 3.0.2) menu transparency works again with the ~/.qt/kstylerc file.

No idea, why it doesn't work for you. It works for me ... well, actually there's a bug in the latest qt-copy, so my KDE crashes now whenever I activate any menu transparency. ;-) But before that it worked. Yes, there will of course be configuration options in kcontrol.

Create a file ~/.qt/kstylerc with the following contents:

[Settings]
MenuTransparencyEngine=XRender
MenuOpacity=0.9

(Instead of XRender you can use
one of SoftwareTint, SoftwareBlend, XRender, Disabled)
