New X Server
Dec 5 2003  on poll Why you can't wait for KDE 3.2:

If anything I'm waiting for the KDE + New X Server combo.

Then KDE will ROCK (Assuming Qt and KDE make use of it).

Open Source KDE-Look
Mar 9 2003  on Discussion

Let's practise what we preach eh?

Frank: I'm a very talented PHP programmer too (as for davidsansome, I've also been coding it for around 4 years now), it would be an excellent opportunity of you put KDE-Look into a CVS and let a small number of kde-look followers (and PHP developers) help you out.

Why not?

How many minor revisions till XFre 5.0?
It takes about 1 year for each .1, so in 7 years time we'll have true alphatransparency?

XFree86 4.3
Feb 28 2003  on Discussion

Hey People. XFree86 4.3.0 has been released, I was wondering if anyone (who knows more about the development of X) could give a quick summarised insight of the major changes?

Any true transparency yet?
:)

SVG common themes
Feb 6 2003  on Discussion

I'm sure the KDE folk will implement a SVG cache type idea so SVG icons are renderes on the fly all the time, maybe once, then used internally as whatever (png, xpm etc)..

KDE 1.0
Dec 13 2002  on poll With what version did you start using KDE?

I started getting into the KDE scene with some friends when we took the plunge and paritioned to install RedHat 6 which came with a local magazine.

Been a KDE (and Linux naturally ;)) fanatic ever since. KDE has certainly come a long way, and hopefully will continue to do so.

Here's to world desktop domination... :-)

hmmm...
Nov 14 2002  on Discussion

Well that would be because of it being coded in C. However, apart from the speed, gnome really doesn't have a lot going for itself ;).

If KDE had the speed of gnome. The world would be a much better place :P.

KDE and Speed/Bloat
Nov 14 2002  on Discussion

I love KDE more than the next guy, but lately the speed of things has really been starting to get on my nerves.

First up I have a 1.2Ghz Duron box, with 512MB of RAM, Running RedHat 8.0 - Basically something that is more than sufficient for desktop use.

However, How can Konqueror take over 2.3 seconds to show up? From clicking the icon (or typing konqueror in the console) to it displaying on the screen? It's a joke.

To be honest, the most important component with a GUI is it's responsiveness, there is nothing worse than a slow GUI. 2 seconds is a joke, hell, anything over .3 seconds is getting a bit too slow.

Apparently this was supposed to go away with the new GCC, RedHat 8.0 is purely GCC 3.2, but it certainly doesn't seem much faster.

I could go on and say the KDE Developers need to concentrate speed, but I realise that this probem is probably out of their control?

So what's the problem now?
X? The runtime linker? The Linux kernal? All of the above *sigh*?

Any insight appreciated!
