Yeah I know I could do that, but that was the purpose of this test mockup which I made: to be able to have no borders but still have grip. So when the shadow overlays under it, you place the cursor on the shadow (really the invisible 5 pixel border) for grip. I'm glad that you're working on this problem and I look forward to the next release :)

Masks for all images
Jan 23 2006  on content deKorator

Hey nice KWIN window decoration! It inspired me to make my own. Just one little problem I'm having with it: the masks seem to only work with the corners.

I've made the frame a 5-pixel magenta with the appropriate maskings and they still appear magenta. I did this because i wanted to have no frame what so ever and have kompmgr show shadows. But the problem with no frame usually is that you can't manipulate it. So what better way than to make an invisible frame! So when you want to increase the size of the window, you drag from the illusion of the dropshadow.

Sadly it doesn't seem to work but if you can manage to add masks for everything, that would be great!

Loving the Idea
Jan 23 2006  on content Tasks Info in Less Windows (mockup)

This is one excellent idea!! The approach of showing the same information of a task but without windows is great. The status of the file in konqueror is also good as I find myself always highlighting the file to see the filesize and judge when it's done (true I can look at the copying window but for stuff like Ark extracting it just shows a bar going back and forth).

This would also be good for instant messenger conversations. I am forever trying to go from conversation window to conversation window and clicking other windows by mistake. Maybe moving these to their own task space like you have illustrated could be a good approach to this problem. And have toaster OSD's possibly appear from the last line a contact has said which you can drag off and open a window. I might just illustrate what I mean.

Anyway, great work and I believe KDE4 to be very innovative with ideas like this!

Usability
Jan 23 2006  on content Blended

This is one excellent theme! But there is one thing which bugs me with usability: It is hard to distinguish between focused and non-focused windows. I have an idea which could work, granted if metacity can kind of "control" the clearlooks colours. Have it so unfocused windows are darkened as well as the GTK+ part. Somewhat like your picture preview shows.

If it already does this with 1.6, I'm all for downloading it! But I'm guessing that pic just illustrates how it integrates well now with darker GTK+ themes.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

Hiding the File Menu
Jan 23 2006  on content Hiding the File Menu

There seems to be 101 ways of hiding the file menu now, hehe.

I'm very interested in these hybrid approaches of hiding the file menu. I believe a lot of programs simply don't need it but others it cannot be without. This is a good idea, however I hope the KDE4 dev team also look at how Gentleman's gentle gnome is doing it: They make a thin file menu on the same plane as the icon toolbar for back/forward/home/etc. but it's to the right of it. If you want to see, it's over at gnome-look.org.

Both ideas look great, maybe both can be in KDE4.
