Re: Re: None of those options
Apr 12 2012  on poll Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?

>They *think* they go their own way. But when you look, Gnome is just a shitty OS X clone, and KDE is just a shitty Windows clone.

I disagree.
There sure are a lot of similarities. The basic concepts are the same after all, that's right.
Well, who cares - after all, those concepts have been in practical use for years and years. They work. At least for the tasks I usually have to do on my computer.

Copying good things is a good idea; most of the time. Many technologies have been elaborated and perhaps even been perfected in that fashion.

>The problem with cloning is: You can never surpass the one you’re following. By definition. As even if the one you’re following turns around and goes backwards, you will follow and do the same.

Correct. But KDE is not cloned, as you assume. As by the definition, cloning would mean to build an exact replica.
You cannot seriously think that KDE is an exact replica of Windows (by Windows I mean only its desktop here, of course).

Maybe KDE was or is inspired by Windows, in the past, presence or future.
I say you can surpass the "original" by just copying the good aspects, and add your own, new and good aspects to your "copy".

Just one example: See the KDE activities and the Plasma desktop for instance. At first I thought they were useless, but now I wouldn't wanna miss them any more. Windows does not have these things.

The rest of your post goes like: "Meh, the Gnome and KDE teams are cowards, they don't dare to deliver something radically new instead of implemented proven, working technology that lets people get shit done."

Hey, why don't you create one. If it's not only you who likes it, you'll be a hero.
There are people who prefer a tiling window manager for instance. They swear it's better. I tried it, I dislike it. So what? You're free to use one if you like, why would you rant and insult me if I just don't have the same taste like you?

Oh, and for your tone - okay we're not exchanging scientific papers here, but on the other hand, we're also not on /b/ here.

Windows?

Why does it depend on MS Windows?
Doesn't it compile on Linux?

None of those options
Nov 2 2011  on poll Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?

I'm very satisfied with KDE4, hence I will continue using this.
Gnome and Unity are of no concern to me.

Thank you very much for this great icon theme!

A changelog upon updates here on kde-look would be cool, though 8-)

D'Oh! Make "GUI" out of "UI"...

Favorite or in use?
Aug 12 2010  on poll Favorite Distribution 2010?

Hmpf. Currently I use Kubuntu, but would like to switch to Arch, or whatever.

Right now I can't switch because I really need my box every single day for productive use. No time for reinstalling the OS. Might find time next month, though.

Perfect would be: A Linux distribution with rolling release, KDE4, and binary packages. Suggestions anyone? :-)

UI tools for system administration would be nice, but not necessary, BTW...

Re: Multiple options?
Jun 2 2010  on poll Do you have a Smartphone?

Well, if one or more of these 3 phones is a smart phone, then you have a smart phone :-)

A more interesting question would be: "I have 3 smart phones, each has a different software basis - which one should I vote for?"
But nevermind...

What would that be good for?

Re: Disappointed
Aug 21 2007  on poll KDE 4.0 Beta 1

I agree.
I tested the version that shipped with that SuSE Live CD (no suse installed though) on several machines.

It was not only unsuitable for "daily work", it was even unsuitable for short time testing, i.e. about 10 minutes.
Although KDE never totally crashed or frezed itself, I would have to logout and re-login every 2 or 3 minutes because clicks on the kicker were ignored, and the desktop was all messed up by just starting and closing dolphin, kontact and some other applications a few times.

Definitely not even beta yet! (I'm a developer, too; I know what beta is meant to be ;-) )

On the other hand, there are some cool things I liked, and therefore I'm looking forward to test later, more stable versions.
After all, I hope the first Release Candidate will profe its name, unlike the beta.
