KDM Theme
Mar 14 2005  on Discussion

I really would like to, if I had the time to understand how the new kdm theme engine's xml files work (HOWTO, maybe?), but I just wondered if anyone else out there in cyberspace would be interested in the same thing. (We could make it even better than M$'s!) Also, it would probably involve looking at the source code for the KSplashML Redmond Engine. Secondly, I would rather do something with the xml theming engine for kdm than use a totally different (and unsupported by the KDE team) display manager.

Try going to Settings->Look 'n' Feel->Icons and tell me what it says on the first tab. I may be able to troubleshoot from there.

Kompmgr
Mar 9 2005  on Discussion

Thank you so much, again, Thomas. I need that applet so that I can view movies with xvideo in MPlayer. (Even setting the special window properties for opacity to 100% for MPlayer windows does not fix the problem. I need that applet!) I also lament having bought a crummy IBM thinkpad with S3 Savage/IX-MV graphics. Such crummy 2D Accel.; it won't run kompmgr at acceptable framerates all of the time. Also, their should be a way in Special Window Settings to disable kompmgr handling of certain windows all together; that would be a better fix for my problem.

Feature Enhancment
Mar 9 2005  on Discussion

This comment is two part:

  1. First, would somebody be willing to do a preliminary version of a kdm theme that would go nicely with the Redmond ksplashml theme? It could not include all the features present in the newest OS from the guys at M$ (read on), but it could look somewhat similar, or not (use your artistic license). I just want it to integrate almost seamlessly with the ksplashml theme.

  2. Second, if any kde developers are reading this (or more likely, if anyone is willing to write the kdm developers) I would like to see as a feature in the next release of kdm (what?, KDE 4.0 is it?) all or most of the functionality found in M$'s Welcome Screen.

sounds like something wrong with the setup for alpha channel in X. The bit depth may be what you need to change. Try 16 bit color.

I'm reuploading it. (IF that's a word.) This is repainted and might be better.
