Re: What the math is it?
Sep 27 2008  on content Focus on document

It is functional analysis, but in fact I'm using it for Non Linear Dynamical System studies.
Tricky but fun ;)
I used this document because (as probably many of you) I often work with this kind of documents to write my essays and even by maximizing the workspace (I use openbox with just a tiny pypanel), I need 4 to 6 desktops to place all the documents I want to have quicly over hand. And fortunately, Firefox has tabs because there are often more than 20 opened at the same time ! So I found that this illustrated the problem well.
And don't misunderstand, I know that you can maximize the workspace in Gnome, I left Gnome just because I didn't need more that a WM and a taskbar. But I'm still a Gnome fan !

Re: Basicly it's a good idea

The main reason I put this here is that it seems to me that even with good programming skills, it would be very painful to realise such an interface with the actual GTK.

Considering that GNOME and GTK are both running toward a 3.0 version, I think it is time to think about what could be the interface of tomorrow. Not for changing it right now, but to think of a way to allow it in the next future.

I understood that GTK+3.0 will (after its first release) focus a little more on theming improvements and I think this could be part of the thoughts. This is maybe time to forget the usual conception of a computer desktop and let the way for new visions to appear.

For example, are windows condemned to remain rectangular ? Nothing is ever rectangular in real life, can't we do something better, now that computers are faster ? Is the concept of window still relevant for computer use by now ? Is it really relevant for mobile devices ? Should desktop have borders ?.. But I'm going a little off-topic here I'm afraid !
