Today I ran a bunch of updates (see list below) on my 12.04 testing machine. My video card is an Nvidia 8800GTS 320. From what I can tell 3D functionality was broken. Unity 3D runs, but the screen updates are measured in 10-30 second intervals and any 3D games played look like slide shows. I have been working with some folks to try and nail down what the cause is so we can report a bug… but right now I am not sure we have a good enough handle on it.

note: I edited this list due to length to only include potential packages. my apologies for the length of the list previously.
UPDATE:
After much playing around and trying to catch any errors I ended up reverting to a manual install of the nvidia 295.20 drivers which is two versions ago. With these drivers Unity 3D is functional and the first two games that depend on 3D are working again. A few more tests and will file a bug report.
UPDATE 2:
Further testing revealed that poor performance returns in games after a few minutes. At this point I am debating doing a fresh install of 12.04 Beta 2 and seeing if the situation is the same.
UPDATE 3:
I worked with Sarvatt in #ubuntu-x at the suggestion of kklimonda in #ubuntu-bugs. I agreed to do a reinstall and then ubuntu-bug nvidia-graphics-drivers if the problem persists. There is also a thread on the Nvidia forums that details how to report issues to them.
UPDATE 4:
I ended up reporting the bug via launchpad, it is bug 982710. I tried to report the issue on the Nvidia forums after following their procedures, but was unable to do so because the registration page was ‘not foud’.
UPDATE 5:
The NVnews.net forums are allowing registration this morning so I posted a thread there reporting the issue with the 295.40 drivers.
