They mostly realise it's Linux and ignore it, tell me how weird it is to run Linux on a laptop and imagine all the things that won't work, or tell me how they use Linux but only for server purposes. :)

 Only OSX, Win, & Lin

If the viewer is actually aware of operating systems other than those made by Apple and Microsoft, they generally assume it is Linux... because apparently there is no such thing as Berkeley UNIX and its derivatives...

 They say...

They say, "Which Windows is it? XP?"
And then I say, "No, it's not Windows, it's Linux."
And they say, "Huh? What's that?"
And I say, "It's a different operating system."
And they say, "What's an operating system?"
And I say, "It's what makes your monitor show porn."

Dude that's great. I am ROFLMAO.

Goes to show how far in depth people think about their computers and how they actually work.

 Clueless IT

Last year (back when I worked in a cubical farm), some schmuck from IT came by to install something on my system. I was across the aisle watching as he came to install software unasked.

He sits down in my chair (unasked), grabs the mouse, moves the cursor over to the bottom left corner, and then stops... He blinks, moves the mouse around a bit, scratches his head. I stop him as he's about to hit the power switch and tell him to get the hell out of my cubicle.

I'm glad you were there to catch it... I lost 8 hours of regression testing when the same thing happened.

I got out of Dilbert-world 6 months ago thankfully.

This time was mild. A few years ago I caught an IT guy trying to reformat the harddrive of my *personal* laptop. He said Linux wasn't allowed, but I had full permission from my boss, *his* boss and the VP, plus there was no policy against Linux. He got demoted to cable stripping.

 Interested

Most are interested, though they are a bit disappointed when I tell them most of the effects (KBFX and SuperKaramba) are KDE-only, and while you can get KDE working on Windows, it's much harder than on Linux :D Yay for having Vista-like effects, stable, and before Vista 'stable' comes out.
