It must NOT be Windows-like. It must be better then windows and must have its own conceptions of using. Users must not get adapted to KDE with analogy to Windows, then they will think that windows is better coz they used for shit in windows and here it is almost same but differs, works some other way ... KDE is not Windows !!!

I think that Kde League must create a gtk+ theme for even qt-style, or a utility that make automatically a gtk+theme from the current kde-theme.

Yes, this probally is hard, but one thing that users complain are apps looking different.
In a new XML age, can't this be done?

The KDE team needs to find ways of cutting down memory usage -- on a 32Megs machine KDE is very sluggish since the system has to page/swap lots of stuffs in/out of the VM.

They should also focus on stablility -- but KDE (kde2 at least -- I havn't tried kde3) is quite stable enough for production enviroments.

They have plenty of applications -- there only needs to be improvements made to exesting applications and some apps, such as the AIM client that comes with knetwork, needs to be split out of the KDE project into their own projects since not many people use AIM clients (msn, yahoo and icq are more popular than AIM, IMHO) so if someone wants AIM they can get it individually.

GNOME support isn't really neccessary. We should be standardizising the interaction between GNOME/KDE/whatever and applications so programmers won't need to bind their apps to a certain desktop enviroment.

KDE areadly has some of the best Eye Candy -- now, they need to focus on opitizing the graphics, special effects (eg fading), and other eye-candy realated stuffs to make it faster.

A 32M machine!
Try even _STARTING_ microsuck 98 (and forget about 2000+) on a 32M pc.

If you have a 32m machine, that's fine, but let's face it: kde is geared towards people migrating from windows, and it does one HELL of a job at it. It is very nice looking and very intuitive. If you need an environment for a 32m box, use blackbox or WMaker.

Actually, Windows 98 works well with 32MB of ram... As much as I hate Microsoft, I have to say that the Windows ui is (feels?) faster than kde's one. Some more speed and less ram usage would be very cool...
Anyway, I think kde rules. :)

Howdy, all.

I just turned back to KDE, to the 2.2.2 release. I took a look at the beta, and although I thought I smelled speed difference, I'm not sure anymore, since the file managing speed in 2.2.2 is quite sufficient.

Anyhow, WE CANNOT GET ENOUGH SPEED. I think we all agree on that, and yet, I must emphasize that we must keep trying. Or you, the admirable coders of KDE.

Somebody mentioned a taskbar reconceptionalization (or something like that), and I have an idea, as opposed to the "empty whining". ;)

A MacOS-style (pre-MacOSX) application taskbar. Optional, needless to say. That's the one thing I don't get why nobody's ever thought of except Apple. I saw it in Ximian GNOME some while back, but that implementation truly sucked, since every window ended up in there, and that goes against the entire concept of simplicity.

It's already possible to have one instance of an app on the taskbar, with individual windows of that apps (or technically, instances of that app) as submenu. This is what I would just love to see in KDE3, in a MacOS-style variation. This, together with the wonderful possibility of keeping the menubars in one place (GUI-simplicity, again), would really honk my horse.

Also, I think the application menu (the K-menu), should be able to stay at the upmost left on the menubar, when the menubar is in MacOS-style.

I tried to implement it once, only to find that I really don't know jack about Qt in C++. ;) Just hoping some KDE developers are going to read this, or that some of you will keep it in mind for further discussion.

Pleace, PLEASE do not turn this into an Mac/Win/Linux discussion. I think we all agree on that having the greatest options in a UI is the best we can get. Options that both can be turned off and on (as a lot of people tend to forget when they try to bash KDE).
