Mandrake 8.1 beats Suse 7.3....
I had Suse 7.2 and 7.3 and Mandrake is all around better, more refined. Alot of stuff in suse did not work right away, and its control panel is pondwater slow.

I still use SuSE 7.3 but I think Mandrake 8.0(which I used before)& 8.1 are the best. I am going back to Mandrake because,I agree with you a lot of things in SuSE do not work.

I think SuSE is much more comprehensive than mandrake. Mandrake took my other linux dist, and formatted it before it gave me a chance to edit where I wanted to put it. Basically it doesnt give you the placement of filesystems like SuSE does. Luckily, I did the right thing, and reformatted my ext2 mandrake / partition, and restored my /boot back with SuSE without a scratch

kinda like going back to the Model T ?, and what eat dried out bread, and coffee ? And tel lyour children how smart you are when they show you up like you lived in another world?

Mandrake?

Well I tried Mandrake 8.0

Most Mandrake specific tool are gtk+ based so they don't look that or integrate that well in KDE.

During the instalation process I could not find KDevelop anywhere to select it (and there was not a serach option available)
I added it later, even though it wasn't listed in Drake Conf search found that package.

Lots of usefull stuff was missing, and that includes the KDE/Qt development libraries (not included in the distro).

And the last straw for me was not beeing able to update to a new kde version. I had to give up.

Installed SuSE and then installed the latest kde version at home and remotely at my office by selecting all the rpms with YaST and choosing install.

Hi

I had exactly the same problem with Mdk 8.0. Impossible to find kdevelop, nsplugins, qt headers and so on.

In fact, all those packages are in the 3 CDs and are installable but (for an unexplainable reason...) you need to select the unordered list of packages (the "Z" option) and then lookup for them in this list.

That's a very annoying and unexplainable bug.

Why Linux?

It think I looks awesome on the unix machines I've installed it on. After getting it to compile with Sun's own c++ compiler, that is my prefered platform.
It's proberbly the fonts, but it looks much better than at home on my debians.
