First off I would like to know how many of you have actually served in the military. How many of you know what sacrifice is or what it feels like to serve this USA?

THOUSANDS of people DIED...does anyone remember that?? HELLO??? Those terrorists trained in this country because of the freedoms that our country stands for and our military enforces every single day.

IRAQ has had 12 YEARS...not months..not days..YEARS to disarm. What has he done...oh..built a few weapons of mass destruction. Oh..but lets just give him a few more days right?? Let's give him another chance. I think there is something wrong with this picture.

I just do not understand how people are against this war. Rules are set in place for a reason. When you break the rules you have to pay the consequences. But wait..let's give Saddam another chance? (Notice that guy that bombed the Oklahoma City Federal Building wasn't given "a few days"...oh but that's different right???)
WEAK..people...very WEAK!

I agree with the previous post...you don't like it..GET THE F*#K OUT OF THIS COUNTRY!
Oh...and BTW...the language here in America is ENGLISH...NOT Engrish, Latin, Arabic, etc. IT IS ENGLISH!!! Learn it..use it!!!

 M$ = USA, :-)

Maybe there is a similarity between Microsoft and the USA.

Both of them are what many people call superpowers. They both try to rule the market/rule the world.

They both bent the laws when it suits them, and do it in such a way they never get punished. See the antitrustlaw with microsoft, and the US in Argentina,vietnam,chile,...

Both their enemies are called 'unamerican' and 'communists, :-)

Both have a strong black-and-white vision on the situation. Linux is a 'virus' and a 'IP destroyer'. We are the good guys, the others are 'the axis of evil'. 'Who's not with us is against us',...

Both had to travel around the world to get support from other parties. Ballmer traveling to India,Australia,... Bush trying to convince and get support from France, Germany, Spain, Turkey,...

They both start to suffer from a lack of trust from the once that always supported them.
Alltough micrsoft still has more than 90percent of the desktop market, a lot of customers and companies don't trust M$ anymore. Because of their way of breaking the law without getting punished, because of
their greed.
The same with the US. A lot of people who ones believed in the US, are losing their trust in the USA. In most countries 80 percent of the
people are against a war in Iraq....

This is just a tought, :-)

You have the audacity to compare a corporation with a country that puts the lives of it’s men and women on the line everyday to defend the world from tyranny and oppression in the name of democracy? You’re an IDIOT!

The United States of America has no intentions of ruling the world. It HELPS those in need. The USA doesn’t invade and take over any country. It liberates other countries from oppression and then gives the help, aid, and money to help them rebuild. You’re and IDIOT!

Both their enemies are called 'unamerican' and 'communists, :-)>

Since when was M$ reffered to as ‘unamerican’ or ‘communist’. Quite the ooposite. Bill took the American dream and made it a reality. I don’t agree with his business practices either, but he did it. You freakin’ Commie!

If you’re not for us then you are against us. The first intelligent thing you have said.

Of course the US is going to look to the world community for support. This concerns them as well. It’s called the diplomatic process. You’re still an IDIOT!

For everything the USA has done for the rest of the world community, THEY OWE US! They should be providing nothing but support. Men, money, equipment, resources…How many dollars have been given to the US when we have been in need? What country has ever risen to give us aid? Here’s a better idea. How about the US just pull out of every country we are in. Close our doors and turn our backs on anyone and everyone in need. Just worry about ourselves and not take an active role to help anyone anywhere no matter how great the need or loss of life. Who will you call then? Who?

Until you have anything of any importance to add, keep your thoughts to yourself…TRAITOR!

Ha! Ha! I love it. Keep 'em comin'! You see, I BELIEVE in the USA, and everything it stands for. I'm man enough to admit that the USA, along with myself, have made many mistakes in the past. But you learn from those mistakes. You grow and you mature. Am I yelling? No. Am I foaming at the mouth? No. I am simply emphasizing the obvious.

Educate yourselves people! Saddam is not a good guy. He can and will attack someone somewhere again. Should we all just sit idly by and let it happen knowing it could have been prevented?

I am a firm believer in the diplomatic process, but I also firmly believe that option has been exhausted. The man should just simply step down. Let his people chose thier own destiny. Give that control back to them. Democracy = empowerment by the people for the people.

Maybe in a few decades even in you will come to a conclusion similar to his

former Marine Gen. Smedley Butler, 1934 :
"I spent 33 years...being a high-class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer for capitalism...I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1916. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City [Bank] boys to collect revenue in. I helped in the rape of a half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street."

back then or today, motivations are basically the same...

This country does put the lives of its men and women at risk, but don't give me any crap about it being to "defend the world from tyranny". Have you ever read a history book, or are you just regurgitating Bush's speeches?

The soldiers out there *will* die. But what for? For Bush's ego. So that he can one day say that he fought TWO wars during his term and won. (because let's face it, who thinks Iraq stands a chance?) Iraq is a threat? For biological weapons? How difficult do you think it was to sneak chemicals in the country? Any experienced smuggler could do it. If Iraq had wanted to attack the US using weapons of mass destruction, he'd have done it long ago. Hell, if he wanted to attack *anyone* outside his country with wmd, he'd have done it long ago. But guess what, all he wants is to be a tyrant in his country and be left alone.

Oh, is that what the US is fighting? Bullshit. If it were, it would be the international policeman, which it isn't and refuses to be. The US picks its fights to suit its interests.

And if that's not enough, look at the history the US has of setting up dicatorships in other countries (Chile, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Urugay, Argentina, Brazil, Vietnam (yes, before the war, there was a dictator)). Wasn't it our great and fearless Bush that described in lovely detail the tortures that Iraq puts its people through? Funny, I didn't hear him mention the school of the America's, which described in details what the most painful methods of questioning were, as well as the more subtle intellectual forms of torture. Or the fact that CIA agents were overseeing the torture chambers of the Pinochets of this world.

So show me that the US has changed. I'm waiting for that proof. The one time it had a chance to truly do something good (after WWII, that one was great, I have to admit) was Somalia, and it backed down after 16 soldiers were killed. Tell me those died for good reason. For a good cause, certainly, for good reason, no.

In brief, I think the IDIOT is you.

 War, nobody wants it

by anonymous on: Mar 12 2003

Score 50%

Nobody wants war, i think we all can agree to that. But the question is not at simple as anti war protesters want it. I dont know the arguments in other countries, but up here (Denmark) I hear people go "many civilians will die" etc. and thats simply their reason for opposing the war. Other people, pasifists, simply oppose war out of old anti-vietnam retoric. The question seems very black and white. War=death / no war=peace (love and hara crisna). But its NOT so easy. In my (humble) oppinion saying no to war in Iraq is the same as saying yes to dictatorship. If the war doesnt come, and Saddam is allowed to continue, people will get killed if they think differently than the Baath party. So the question is really, "war now, and what ever comes with it" or "Keep status quo, and let the oppresion and killing go on for longer time, but with a smaller death/day ratio".

My standpoint is clear. I think that war is needed here. I am open to discussion about when (1 month/2 months), but the oppinion of Germany, to some extend France and Russia and pasifists of the world, I simply cant come to terms with. Saying no to war under any circumstance is simply a big yes to dictatorship, and the killing of civilians will go on in status qou speed, is this acceptable ???

Many people will accept a war if UN gives its support, but to me, that is irrelevant. Look at the UN. China, a dictatorship, has the right to veto. Other doubtfull democraties have voting power in the UN counsel. How can theese countries represent the ground rules of human rights ??? Also i would like to point out the fact that the intervention/war in Kosovo was NOT un approved, because Russia treathened with a veto at that time. Today we can all see that the war there was the only way out. For crying out loud, people were put in kz-camps here in our modern europe, whilst russian diplomats AND so-called peace lovers where protesting the "NATO-agression". All those protester forget quick, and are now propably quite a shamed (or should be!). This example clearly shows that the UN is not a guarantee of a "fair and just" war.

Is there oil involved here ??? Maybe there is. I cant prove there isnt, and there insn't a soul out there that can prove that there is. No one knows. I chose to think well of the american intentions, many choose to think bad. its a matter of oppinoen, but to my point of view it is quite irrelevant. What i see here is a chance to remove a dictator, and that is worthy cause to me.

Will there be more terror ?? Maybe, but should we choose not to go to war because of that, the terrorists have won. They now control us through terror.

Does Saddam have any ABC weapons ?? i think so, but I cant say that he has for sure, but I know, and I'm sure even die hard pasifists will agree that Saddam will do all in his power to get them (which is why the sanctions are needed). So if we lift the sanctions, I will no longer sleep well at night, knowing that saddam is getting stronger by the hour. Some people will say "Then keep the sanctions, and other wise leave Iraq alone", again this is a clear acceptance of dictatorship and civilians will continue to pay for our naive pasifist ideas...

"To defeat the Devil, sometimes one must ally with deamons" (cant remember who wrote it, but it fits the situation in terms of what the Bush adm. intentionsions might be, and what the poeple want)

 Anti-Americanism

First, I am not US citizen. Nor I live or lived in US. I am Brazilian, a country that has a mainly anti-us media and intellectuals. I will be using "Americans" for citizens of United States fo America (too long).

I think there are some false understandings about the US role in the world.
Could someone point out, in the history of mankind a single society that was more democratic, and with more respect for the freedom of OTHER people than the Americans?

Where would we be if USSR had won the cold war?
See what happened in history for countries occupied by Americans: Japan, France, Germany: democracy and freedom. Compare with Tibet, the former sovietic satellites, Timor Leste, the killing of Kurds and Chechens and many, many more in the world. They are the direct result of human egoism and brutality, something that lives today.
Would you prefer to have China in this role? Or Russia? Or France? Or Germany? No. When they had the chance, they were much less democratic than the US. _Americans are NOT imperialists._ If they were, they would have already an empire by now. USSR was imperialist. China is imperialist just now. The last "imperialist" move by US was at least a century ago.

More, they truly have faith in their role in the world as freedom and democracy fighters. And their economic profit from their actions has been always highly overrated. People try _hard_ to find reasons other than altruist reasons for US actions.
There are in fact some pathetic theories out there that try desperately to make all american action seem selfish.

I would agree with a forum of democratic nations to have the power to act as the police in the world. But people like to talk a lot, but just don't take responsibility. Will they take an action if they see that they made an error of judgement about Saddam?
Will they spend money (a lot of money) for this action? Will they accept to see they own die in a foreign country? You must answer yes to all this questions if you want to have the right to vote.

After all, Saddam is a dictator, who use mass destruction weapons, who rules with brutality, who have an ethnic engineering program (like the Nazi and the Soviets), and is one of the richest mans in the world. This guy is capable of anything. And people can only talk about Bush.

Are you for delaying the war? More time for a pacific solution? Fine. There are valid points I do respect. But if you ant to have multilateral decision, there should be multilateral responsibility of _democratic nations_. And that I have not seen yet.

The US makes a far better world for everyone. But one of the most popular subjects in the world is to blame someone for your own problems. That makes it all problems simple, everyone happy, and all solutions wrong.

How many American lives were lost in WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, just to name a few...in efforts to stop tyranny and opression.

To say that americans know nothing of war is wrong. Don't forget about our own Civil War. More Americans were killed in that war than all others combined we have ever been involved in.
