first i had DLD, than Redhat, than Mandrake, than Suse. Suse is defently the best distro. It has the easiest installation and the support over the homepage and the online-update!

 Mandrake

I'm currently using Mandrake, SuSE and Red Hat and find that they are almost all equal when it comes to stability. Ease of use goes to Mandrake. SuSE just doesn't seem to cut it on the desktop, and Red Hat, well, just aint for the beginner.

My wife can install Mandrake, set up her Internet and do everything she needs to do with it. It never crashes and can burn MP3s to her satisfaction.

The config tools are very easy to use and intuitve. They function logically and pretty much do what they say they are going to do. We haven't had thhis kind of ease of use with Red Hat or SuSE. Our LUG chose Mandrake not only because it' s, in our opinion better over all, but they are concerned about the Linux community. I'm not saying the others aren't, but I like there attitude.

Red Hat seems to be losing its love for the community.

We'll stick with Mandrake and KDE On it.

Thanks,

Riker

 suse, once again

I tried mandrake, and dont trust it to safely deal with my other /boot /, and etc reiserfs, ext2, ext3 partitions without asking. I lost my whole boot partition, it overwrote an existing linux install. I wanted two linux distro's running. Ease of use ? Luckily, SuSE's rescue system reinstalled my /boot partition - kernel and all with out a scratch. Mandrake should have notified the installer of an existing operating system, and provided integrated detail of my options. Suse lets you run in expert mode, and specifically choose exactly what to define, where to put it, and how. Mandrake had some colorful bars that lumped my space in groups, and didnt recognize existing partitions like suse did. As easy as you want to make it for people to maintain a linux distro, there are still the experienced users who have been through it all, and prefer fine tuned software, as unfriendly as it may seem to new users. KDE and SuSE have made an excellent pair with respect to interoperability. In dealing with problems, procedures, and options, I have found SuSE to provide an abundant amount of tools, etc in KDE, and or other wm's as well as packages to get the job done. Whether it be rpm based, or tgz, bz2, or gz The tools are there. I have yet to be shown how any other competes with suse

 FreeBSD

Used suse, Mandrake, RH, Caldera, Debian, Gentoo. On the Linux side of things Debian and Gentoo are best for KDE. But overall it is FreeBSD by far. Gentoo, Debian and FreeBSD all keep KDE the way it is and do not mess with it. Like SUSE that messed it up bi g time. This was about best distro for KDE wasn/t it??? Was not sure reading most comments.

I love how freebsd stops your internet connection stale via kde, then leaves you with a kdeinit.core file about 150 Megs large... I dont understand how people think suse is low rated, no one really ever points out anything thats wrong, other than saying obtuse comments without basis

I still don't understand why everyone always fights over distributions. The fact is that we are all using a UNIX style OS. Personally, I like all the distributions, they each have interesting features that set them apart from each other. There is no way to say that this one or that one is the best because what is the best for you may not be the best for me.
