 1 Important Feature

by optikSmoke on: Jan 5 2004

Score 50%

It looks great! However, one important feature (IMHO) that is missing that other app-oriented download sites is a "mini" description for each app that is displayed when you are browsing. Personally, I don't like having to click on every app to find out what it does, the name and scaled-down screenshot aren't enough. A short summary would make browsing a lot easier.

My only other suggestion would be to anti-alias the logo. KDE-Look looks WAY better mostly just because the logo is much cleaner.

 Problem

This site has the same problem as looky: i can never tell what page i'm looking at in my history since all of the titles are the same. It's not that hard to add a little database entry inside the tag.

 Revamp needed

The problem with this site and kde-look is that the design is akward when compared to the other kde sites. I guess this site will look better with the same stylesheets used in kde.org and with the same formatting.

Moreover, the apps classification is clumsy to say the least. Its fine when u deal with such a layout for kde-look because there is a lot less level of classification involved in kde-look ie, just 4-5 main divisions each with 3 or 4 sub divisions. But here if not now then later we will have to deal with 100+ subdivisions to properly classify apps( Also please dont recreate the appsy mess here)

All said ... anyway my final opinion is Good work everyone !!!!! Glad to see the site is up.

Why are 500kb screenshots allowed? Reduce it to 200kb then people will learn how to make good screenshots and traffic won't be so high and modem and ISDN user will be happy.

 Better than appsy

I like this site better then 'appsy' because it feels more unified with kde-look and I can use the same login. Also the interface seems allot better IMHO.

 Things I'd like...

[I know *someone* will not like this, but here goes...] Ummm... how about frames? (at least for the content sidebar) Even though I have a 1280x1024 display, it is still a PITA to scroll the ENTIRE page down to anything below "text editors", select something, then have to scroll the screen AGAIN to get the next (sub) category

In the "better still" category, how about (a) recognizing the browser is Konquerer [it IS a KDE site after all], and (b) automatically creating two "tabbed" pages: one for the index, and another for the content at that index page...

(ok, my newness is showing -- I'll go home now :) ]
