 GNOME

Ok, I first used MS Windows. But when I tryed linux for the first time, it was at my engeneering college, whith KDE 3.2.
Then, I instaled mandriva, whith both KDE and gnome, and as I didn't know gnome, and as the name souds funy for a RPGamer, I used it a little( 3 weeks or so ).
-I voted Gnome

But since I launch KDE, I never used Gnome any more ( oh, once, just to test XGL when it was gnome-only ... but KDE was still better)

 Life before KDE

I abandoned a sinking 98SE for Fedora Core 4, running Gnome, but Gedit lacked the tools I needed, so I started using Kate. Gnome runs Kate OK but it loaded slowly, so I tried using KDE, and found it much better than Gnome in all respects. Fedora does a decent KDE, but had some annoying glitches, so I moved to SUSE 10.1, which does almost everything very well.
My main complaint about KDE is that the default setup of huge icons in the control bar is a shocking waste of space, I have removed all of them and use only the Quicklaunch applet that gives me a double row of small icons. I have also hidden all the running processes except the auto-updater.
I am unimpressed by the Konqueror initial use of useless blobby icons instead of a tree list, but then I am an old mainframe programmer and set in my ways. What I do like is that I can easily and permanently set the default view to a detail tree, showing the fields I want - unlike all versions of Windows I have used up to 2000, though XP is part way there but still trailing badly.

 not really

I've gone from KDE to Gnome. I was huge fan of KDE for a long time but now it seems out of steam, and all those bugs geez. People will keep moving away from KDE unless KDE can pull up some miracles really soon. Really dunno if KDE 4 can save KDE project.

Looser!! Any examples of how KDE has "run out of steam"?

To what? If Gnome is really better than KDE, why don't you give some examples?

Gnome at least is in some way usable when you need a real work get done.
SLED 10 is the first distro I would consider to pay money for and it's Gnome default. Damn slow though.
No offence man, I should've said “Linux is running out of steam” really.
More and more often find myself booting up the Window$ XP side lately.

What is "unusable" about KDE?

IMHO, Linux is just picking up steam, not running out of it. When was the last time you tried KDE?
