I didn't expect that XMMS is dominating the KDE Desktop so clearly.

Well, I'm using juk and can't wait for juk 2. Too bad that I am unable to compile the prereleased Juk 1.95 with OGG support.

Juk2 is great!
I used to have the same problem, it's due a mimetype error.

edit juk-1.95/juk/mediafiles.cpp
change

static const char oggType[] = "application/ogg";
to
static const char oggType[] = "application/x-ogg";

also edit
jukservicemenu.desktop
if you care for the "Add to JuK Collection" from konqeuror.

Thank you for this tip. However this is not my problem. ./configure reports:


Ogg Vorbis support was not found.
a KFile-plugin for displaying Ogg Vorbis Information
has been disabled from compilation.


When I look into ./configure I see that the variable HAVE_VORBIS must be set to 1, but when running

find . -type f -exec grep HAVE_VORBIS /dev/null {} \;

it shows:

./configure:if test "x$HAVE_VORBIS" != "x1"; then
./configure.in:if test "x$HAVE_VORBIS" != "x1"; then
./configure.in.bot:if test "x$HAVE_VORBIS" != "x1"; then


So I don't see, where this environment variable gets set. It seems like the configure script is buggy.

I like rhythmbox most, but it's really buggy on my machine and I don't want to have to deal with all of the GNOME dependencies, so I stick with Juk.

It's funny how quickly I grew to live without XMMS in the corner of my screen, and Juk's handling of playlists and ID3 tags makes life so much easier for me :)

Amen Brother.

Maybe the reason why so many use XMMS is that it is similar to WinAMP that has been used by many people on another OS... wait.. what was it called?... Doors?

It's not only because it's similar to WINamp, but (my opnion) it's less buggy and more fast than other players.

Well, this poll is about Audioplayers, not Mediaplayers.

As for Mediaplayers, I prefer KPlayer, since the Mplayer backend knows the most codecs.

But hey... this could become a new poll: "What is your favourite Mediaplayer?"

IMHO the default KDE players are way to slow (esspecially in startup) and support very few formats, esspecially for video playback.

I love these polls. I never even knew that juk existed, and now that I've tried it, I don't think I'll ever go back to xmms. This is just a great program. Integrates with kde, and it allows me to change the id3 tags of multiple files at once!

I tried noatun a couple times but found it kinda limited. For instance, I could never figure out a way to have it play the songs randomly without it randomizing the actual displayed playlist. I want to be able to play the songs randomly but still see the playlist in order. Is that even possible with noatun?

Also, I've always wanted this feature, and I'm curious if others have thought about this, because I would love to see it implemented in a player sometime: I'll often find myself listening to a playlist on random, and I'll really want to listen to a specific song next, but I don't want to sit around waiting for the current song to end, or have to rearrange my playlist, take it off of random, and then let it choose that song as the next one. I always for instance thought it would be useful for xmms to have the ability to play the selected song as the next song (possibly make some sort of special selection process to do this?). What do other people think? Do any good players already have a feature like this?

Right mouse button on a song in JuK (1.95 or CVS) and select "Play Next" ;-)

XMMS 1.2.8 has this feature of "queueing" your songs from the playlist. And I fell in love with it instantly.. I still have to try JUK though.. I'll give it a try :)
