What to include? Same things as in this poll... And loss of pseudo transparency, coupling of mouse wheel scrolling row size of dolphin and konqueror

Want Debian Sid with spices? Get sidux at sidux.com - it simply works :)

tried to use the xrender backend?

at least latter nVidia drivers have 'ok' xform... well zoom (2d matrices) support.

thus you can use shadows, exposé and spaces. that's enough to me and you don't have to live with the PixmapToTexture forth-and-back conversion

The expose (present windows) effect has a very slow response. It would be instantaneuous, like expose in MacOSX.
When I put my mouse pointer in one of the corners to activate "present windows", I must wait some tenths of second before "present windows" acts. In OSX you don't wait, expose acts instantaneously.

i'd say this depends on
a) GPU: 7600GT
b) driver (release) 180.whatever
c) KDE version (trunk)

Well, I have done that this page says and I have improved the speed and the stability of KDE effects, in general.
But present windows has the same problem.
In OSX, if you move quickly the mouse pointer to the activation corner, exposé appears automatically.
In KDE, you can put the mouse pointer in the activation corner, and, if you are fast, you can move the mouse pointer out of the activation corner, and present windows doesn't appear.

Present windows has a little reaction time.
Exposé is instantaneous.

This is actually a feature. If you looked a bit closely you see a pixel, which the cursor avoids which prevents the effect to be triggered unintendedly.

There is a DELAY set for the EXPOSE effect to start [Hardcoded at present]. I have opened a wish on bugzilla on this matter and an option in SystemSettings to change the time delay will be added.

Plasma improved a lot, but I think the best were the small improvements all over KDE.

I'm not really happy with KDE4 yet.
I'm amazed everytime i use it and i like all the new ideas (Nepomuk, Plasma ..) but i do not benefit of them yet.
I really hope there will be features usefull for me which i can't have on a Gnome Desktop, because then i'll change imediatly

Hi,
I am trying more and more times to understand why the hell the new stuff it is rejected at first glance!

How the hell is it possible that the 22% of people are considering 3.* the best ever... Nostalgic or blind.. or let me think.. maybe just because they like contradictions?

People come on! Please...if you do not appreciate the new stuff why should people continue to code? Just keep 3.5 for the rest of your days than.. why not?

Anyway that was only my point of view.. Nothing personal.. If you would like to keep 3.5, that is your choice... But here, in the world of 4, you are really losing something: a new era of experiences and dreams...
Polls are done to get statistic at the end right? ..and to let us all understand how different we are!

Well, take in consideration that some users are running Gentoo in stable version (like me) and that these people (still like me) can't install KDE 4 if they want to keep a stable installation.

I will probably give a chance again to OpenSuse with KDE 4 but each time I'm fed up with Gentoo and install another distro, it doesn't take more than 2 days to me to get back to Gentoo and become a really Happy Gentoo User for some months.

Let's hope 4.2 will be stabilized on Gentoo... I would really like to use KDE 4... but not at any cost (using another disto).

Incorrect assumption. I've tried several times with different releases in 4.0.x and 4.1.x. It just isn't usable.

4.x just doesn't work (no hide buttons for the taskbar so one can't get to buttons that are hidden behind it, the clock applet has no way to set the font size for the "plain" clock, so it consumes all of the taskbar space, ksysguard signal plotter background color doesn't get set to the specified color but to an awful gradient that obscures data, etc. ad nauseum)

To fix bugs, to add missing capability (e.g. a Usenet newsreader for KDE that properly handles MIME multipart messages), to improve performance (especially on old/limited capability hardware), ...

Frankly, I'm surprised that that "22%" isn't much higher. A lot of long-time KDE supporters are greatly disappointed at the unprecedented problems with KDE 4. E.g. see
