I got KDE 3.1.RC5 running on my mandrake cooker laptop, and its really great! I think it is now the best GUI ever.

Windows 95/NT used to be my favourite (98 onwards was ruined), but I think this a new standard in GUI's

On my Main box that runs SuSE 8.0, Im still running KDE 3.0.5, as KDE 3.1 is not yet stable (or secure) enough for a desktop for everyday use. Hopefully when the final release comes out it will be perfect!

Unlike the jump from 2.2 to 3.0, there are a LOT of differences and it really should be 4.0, but I am not in charge of the version numbering.

 About the jump

You should understand that also if there are many change between 3.0 and 3.1, the big jump was between 2.2 and 3.0 because it broken source and binary compatibility, and put basis for develop the new 3.x series.
Major version number (2.x, 3.x) change only when source and binary compatibility is broken because changes in the API, so 3.1 is the right version number for this release, don't be confused by the high number of news...

p.s: sorry the crappy english

You should see the post 3.1 series. There are a lot of changes in recent CVS that makes kde even better.

KDE 3.1 is a new standard for usability and eye-candy. I'm running KDE 3.1rc5 on Mnadrake 9.0 only because Cooker is still a little buggy. (It's also the GUI I'm using with YOPERrc2, which resides on my second hard drive)

The only place I'm not using KDE 3.1rc5 is on my Redhat 8.0 box, where I use GNOME (because I want to use all the default settings while I study for my RHCE).

 build the source...

because the RedHat RPM's are an absolute abortion. Don't use them if you have RedHat. You won't have any idea how good KDE is if you use the half-assed RPM's that RedHat makes.

actually, as early as the first available time allows; I didn't really think about that, just as I didn't think about 2.2 to 3.0 upgrade, but I guess I would actually wait for someone package it for easier installation.

I've looked at screenshots, and read changelogs, but the yhaven't really given me much of an impression of what I'll be looking forward to with 3.1

What features in 3.1rcx have people really liked? What new touches have actually made a difference to your desktop experience?
