...has an Intel Core2Duo 6600, 1 Gb RAM and 2 HHDs -- 400 and 320 Gb respectively. So, my next major upgrade (not counting my soon-to-arrive TV which I'll be using as a monitor) won't be this year.

BTW, KDE runs pretty smooth even on PCs which are 5 years old (if they have enough RAM), so buying a new PC just to run KDE isn't really necessary in most cases (unlike a software product that starts with "V").

I don need to change my computer now. I'm using KDE 3.5 on a Pentium III - 1ghz and it runs perfectly. I also have a modern computer, but I prefer to use the old P-III to surf the Internet!!

Intel Celeron 1,7Ghz just as old motherboard and all the guts... heh it [KDE] runs just fast.

I'm pretty content with performance rate even though when I load many applications into the memory [RAM which is only 256MB... no DDR... old-skool eh..] system performs very good.

Why buy new hardware when the old is still good enough?

I consider bying a notebook (because I've never had one and I NEED it since I have to compute and/or deal with all the sort of tasks on the go or just other places than home...)

I make a happy use of old COMPAQ i386 arch in my home LAN. It runs FreeSCO router. It's diskless, with no display which is connected to another old machine running just anything it is required to run [Windows XP/FreeBSD/Frenzy/Slax/etc......].

Well, old computers are good.
New are good too by all means :)

Just installed the new Kubuntu on an old PIII 667 Mhz 256 MB Ram, works like a charm. Only the Harddisk is a minor bottleneck.

So why buy a new computer?

(Ok my main Rig is very current... Core2Duo + 2GB RAM)
