 KDE 1.0

by Unleaded on: Dec 13 2002

Score 50%

I started getting into the KDE scene with some friends when we took the plunge and paritioned to install RedHat 6 which came with a local magazine.

Been a KDE (and Linux naturally ;)) fanatic ever since. KDE has certainly come a long way, and hopefully will continue to do so.

Here's to world desktop domination... :-)

 Good ol' Pre times

when KDE (version, what is a "version"? ;-) compiled in less than 15 minutes on my K5-100. But then it took sometimes almost 2 hours to GET it to compile at all...

 Possible compile?

Do you think that version would compile nowadays? (I mean with new libraries, new compilers....). I started with versions 1.x, but I used to get binaries at the moment, so I really don't know how hard it used to be to compile it.
I'd like to see it on my desktop now and compare the speed with 3.1 ;-)

MDK7? Didn't that one come already with 2.0? Ooops... I might have used pre 1.0's then ;-)

 Mdk 7.0

Yep, it was Mdk 7.0 (7.02 actually - Mandrake had the nice strategy to release update versions back then) which introduced KDE 1 to me as well. I remember that I thought GNOME looked much cooler, but KDE was a lot more stable.

 Used kde since 2.2.1

When iIfirst got linux (back in december 2001, mandrake 8.1) It came with kde 2.2.1. That version of kde was not very impressive, but when kde 3.0 came out it was what a desktop was supposed be! I tried the kde 3.1 beta and I'm eagrly waiting for its release! I really want the power of konqueror combined with tabs!

i started using kde after kde 3 release because it became a lot more easy to chage apearance wish i think it's one of the features that gnome is losing. so i think i like kde 3 because it's a lot more easy to costumize
