1024x768 is in the lead after 66 votes which I find VERY surprising, especially when the targeted audience is at least a LITTLE bit techy. :)

 1280x960

Why isn't 1280x960 in the list? That's what I use because it's a regular 4/3 resolution. 1280x1024 belongs to "the other world" where you can find all kinds of strange things like that. Whatever...

I'm using the same as it looks much better then 1280x1024 on my 17' CRT.

On the vast majority of 19" TFT LCD monitors, 1280x1024 is the native and optimum resolution. Therefore it's the factory factory default setting.

Unlike CRTs, LCDs don't produce a picture that's as good at other resolutions. They have to scale it. That can distort the image somewhat (especially text).

LCDs have been outselling CRTS for several years now. The 19" models tend to give you the most bang for the buck.

Therefore the poll numbers are probably influenced by that.

I could switch between 1024x768 and 1280x1024 on my old 19" CRT and notice no difference in picture quality.

That's not the case with my 19" LCD.

I don't have the best eyesight, so switching from my 19" CRT @ 1024x768 (sometimes 1152 x 864) to 1280x1024 took some getting used to.

But I digress...

Well,

Actually a lot of the lcd monitors I've seen are not 4:3 at all, and the 1280x1024 'native' resolution actually displays nice round circles.

So if you're on a CRT, you're probably right, but not neccesarily on a LCD.

I think 1024x768 is popular because most laptop tfts can't display bigger resolutions.

 want a 1600x1200 tft

At the moment I use a 21" CRT + 17" CRT as dual head...
the 21" has distortions (the cursor seems to have the width if you move it close to the right or left edges) and strange colors...
That's really not that good for image editing stuff etc...
I want a 20" or 21" TFT that can do 1600x1200 .. or at least 1400x1050... less wouldnt satisfy me :/

hmmmm... I need money..

And how about 2560x1600, for those crazy people with 30" LCDs made by Dell or Apple?
