Glad to see DEs are finally takinga looka t the competition and trying to learn from each other.

IMO, there is a lot KDE could learn from GNOME too, like their donation pages whicha re much more detailed and encouraging, their HIG, which I think has a lot of good points about usability and their panel, god I love those drawers and emblems ;)

Really GNOME has some awesome features too that I would love to find in KDE>

BTW: gDesklets is GNOME's answer to Karamba, it is not compatible ebcause it uses XML.

Better idea: what about porting gDesklets to KDE and use the same desKlet themes? ;)

(because Karamba only used to be a quick test app, wasn't it? - gDesklets' design is better)

I think Karamba (in the form of SuperKaramba) is better than both vanilla-Karamba and gDeskLets in terms of it's API and the power it gives to theme designers.

What both SK and gDesklets need to do however, is ditch XML/the Samurize type of format that Karamba uses and switch to a plain Python-only API.

SK uses the Karamba API though so this isn't even a comparrison, SK as it's name implies is Karamba with more power, interactivity.

However, this was a question of Karamba vs GDesklets.

I know that some GNOME developers called ita big ugly hack but how is gDesklets better (I think XML format is a good design decision, but I don't relaly know the major advantages of this)?

They both pretty much have the same concepts.

Hi to everyone, after some years working with KDE I switched to Gnome, and I find it very interesting, KDE can learn from Gnome how to build a very clean GUI, without the croud of options avaiable for example in a konqueror window, their HIG guidelines are useful, probably their interface is too simple, and some more advanced options can be useful, but it work fine, the theme management is very cool, and it supports svg graphics.
What each other should learn IMHO is to share a greater common codebase, for example IPC communications(without the dualism DCOP/CORBA) Drag'n Drop, support for each other component tecnologies, maybe merged into a desktop-libs package (:-) also instead of doing stupid flames gdesklets and karamba should work together, gDesklets is a more elegant with his sensors and display model, themes are also very easy to install within nautilus, but superkaramba has a more advanced API
So please stop flaming each other and work together for a Free Desktop
