Since only 87% were satisfied with the look of KDE, they surely didn't had the time to explore the possibilities of customizing KDE and they surely did not see KDE-Look.org ;-)

...Sure, but when gaming on Linux becomes more than a joke, then we will be near equal.

13% did not like the design of the applications this is not merely fixed by a new theme because it includes a lot more than that. The design includes the interface, features, documentation etc.

Anyway, this still seems like god news, but we all knew that Linux wa god enough for such tasks anyway. Where it is lacking is more in the very specialized application area and multimidia + games.

After reading the original article once again, I noticed that is made and translation error: "design of KDE applications" should be "look of KDE applications". I'll update this.

Thank you pointing that out.

Should be "I noticed that I made a translation error".

Sorry for the confusion.

 Using Hicolor Style?

by DrFalken on: Aug 6 2003

I don't know what is the "default" widget theme for KDE in a SuSE installation... But, if it's the "Hicolor" one, and the default icons... they look a bit "dirty" compared with WinXP or older versions of windows.

With a bit of "eyecandy" in the default installation, the look drastically change, to a friendly "face" to show... Not all distributions install the kdeartwork as a default, and put a nice combination of icons + widget theme + windecoration, could help in some way to show non unix users the "nice face" of kde and opensource.

Sergio.

 XP had major cheat!

They said all users tested hadn't used winXP or KDE before. But Win2k,NT,ME,98 and 95 are so similar to winXP, and since all users were said to be experienced computer users, then the vast majority of them are well versed in the windows95+ interface already. The only fair test would be to use Mac and Amiga users(but they might be anti MS already), or people who have never touched a computer.

You might as well get 95% kde2.x users and a couple of win9x users, then the results would be far different, and there certainly isn't more changes between win98-XP then there is between kde2.2 and kde 3.1.
