 SuSE 9.2 packages

Could it be that the SuSE 9.2 packages are missing MP3 support? After upgrading to KDE 3.4.1 I cannot play MP3 files. Just OGGs.

mp3 support isnt part of kde. it all works fine here with amarok on debian. im pretty sure this is a problem with the suse packages and not kde itself.

Yeah, I know. But how to fix the SuSE packages without recompiling KDE?

I don't know if this will work for SUSE 9.2, but it does for 9.3 and you lose nothing giving it a try:

You can use Yast Online Update tool to grab several packages called "optional multimedia package 1-3", or something very similar to that (perhaps you will have to choose a server outside the u.s. borders). Then you will have mp3 support in your libraries.

By the way: this is *one* of the reasons I am dropping SUSE as my favorite distro (now I'm in love with Gentoo). In almost every other respect, I find it very good.

Good luck.

Yea I had the same problem with Suse Pro 9.3. KDE 3.4 came with it, without MP3 support. I got my packages using APT from packman (they are a bunch of coders and hackers who make multimedia packages). Also, YaST online updates should land you what you're looking for.

This was a problem with suse not kde. Its worth using their updater which enables support. I can play mp3s on suse 9.3.

The same happened to me when I got suse 9.3. It took me about an hour to figure out why.

I have the suse ftp set as a install source in YAST. I did that because there are some packages that you don't get with the cd's.

Any way I found that the packages I had to install had the word "mad" in the name.

Open YAST to install for packages, click Filter and Search. Check mark only "Name" and type mad and hit enter.

You'll get a list, not all your results have any thing to do with playing mp3's so don't install every package. I got about 14 on my search result. Go through them and figure out for your self which one's you need.

 more and more XP loo

More and more, KDE looks like W.XP, but i dont like the W.XP look. SO please, i searched all Control Center entrys. How can i disable this horror look at the file browsing. The actual list is shaded, and i want the old KDE 3.3.x look back, without the shaded box.
Here is a picture, of what i mean.

Okay, here is a picture:
http://www.mirkoroller.mynetcologne.de/kde2.png

The first Konqueror window, shows all Files, sorted by "Name". Since 3.4.x KDE shows this sorted behavior with a shaded "Name" section. ( All Filenames are greyed and a little darker )

The second window, shows the "Name" section, how it looks like in KDE 3.3.x. But to get this nice look&feel back i must sort/grey/shade some other part , now its the Permissions part.

My simple question was, how can i tell Konqueror to Display all Sections, without shading one.

i don't think this is possible anymore. the dev's have chosen this over the old behaviour, as it is more usable (you can see immediately what the files are sorted on). and it might look slightly worse (horror is imho a bit exagerated), but it IS better, i think. but maybe there is a option for this in a config file, you might try to contact the konqueror developers about this...

 Problem w/ Kuickshow

by deathkrush on: Jun 16 2005

When I had KDE 3.3 I used Kuickshow to browse and delete pictures. As soon as I upgraded to KDE 3.4.1 Kuickshow lost the ability to delete. Nothing happens when I press Del or Shift-Del. I have to use this other program KView, which is very, very awkward.

Also, Konqueror crashes from time to time when deleting files. Other than that everything is great, KDE 3.4.1 rocks.
