 Icons needed

by elektroschock on: Apr 29 2004

There are other parts in KDE where icon doublicates in the same menu look amaateurish like in the new control center dialog or in the config menu. I think this has to be fixed first before new applications a kdefied.

 Icons for all

by who on: May 1 2004

I know this is *KDE*look.org, but my feeling is that Openoffice.org needs to look nice in any environment.
I see no reason for the new artwork and icons being made by the contributers here not to be used in OOo itself. I think imporving the look/feel of it for KDE users is great, but wouldn't making the improvments intrinsic to OOo (at least as an option) - so they were present accross the board be more productive for the general desktop GNU/Linux cause?
Thoughts?

I agree, users are users no matter what environment/DE/WM or whatever they run and they all should have equal rights to nice looking Office-suite(and other software too).

hm. why not?

i think kde (crystal) icons would look very ugly in gnome or xfce.

i think this is a good idea.

This is not about OpenOffice. It's about the KDE Integration of OpenOffice.

To mess up a Linux box, you need to work at it; to mess up your Windows box, you just need to work on it.

There was a comment on this in the review of OOo vs. MS-Office @ http://www.kirkmcpike.com/column/archive/2004/05.04/index.html
- I think there is little doubt that OOo could use a makeover. One thing is, it is pretty far from other Windows programs, but rather far from KDE and Gnome, too.
Perhaps it would be possible to add a choice of theme versions to the installer?

Yea, I think a choice of theme is important - but I think any change of theme is better than none.
As I have already said, I think that the work the kdelook community is doing should be integrated properly into openoffice.org (perhaps as an option) - and then Gnome (and even Windows) themes can come later or from other sources (or here if we have some sudden change of target)
What would be really nice would be for some query at OOo startup to detect which environment you were in and load an appropriate icon theme.

 Great News

The latest development version (680_m41) now can use 32 bit (with alpha transparency) png files. You no longer have to convert KDE icons to bmp files but can now use the stock png files.
