So what's wrong with using another style as a template to build one's own? Isn't that what the entire open source thing is about (i.e. not reinventing the wheel again). And maybe the code's not entirely different but it's not just a quick hack. It actually looks like QNiX and like a different theme.

Never said it was necessarily wrong. Just that it, like almost all KDE styles, is either written by mosfet or heavily based off of mosfet's work - just doing hacks to make it look a little different. You said it was not, and are wrong as I have shown. What's wrong with giving credit where it is due? As for what is wrong with everyone basing their work off of mosfet's and not doing anything original, it's not wrong (that's what free software is for), but it does make mosfet's departure (is he back?), worse for KDE. The lack of originality in styles like Qnix and dependence on mosfet for new ideas in code is definitely not a good thing.
