 Limit Preview size

by dimitri on: Jan 6 2003

I also thing you should try to limit bandwith. Example: If you click on Preview you often get the whole 1600x1200 Wallpaper!! That not too good. Limit the prieview to about 10KB.
Also I have a monthly Bandwidth of 5GB. Currenty I use about 60MB. So I would also be able to host some data.

 Try SuSE or Lindows

Contact SuSE! They would make a most excellent host.

SuSE just recently celebrated their 10th birthday and I would not be surprised if they helped you guys out as a big thanks to the Linux community. They did use a lot of artwork from KDE_LOOK too.

They also have recently released their top of the line UL powered enterprise server OS. They would probably want to prove their software’s worth and run KDE-LOOK.org on one and place this image: http://www.suse.com/images/sles8_visual.png at the bottom of KDE-LOOK.

Furthermore, SuSE will soon start to focus on the desktop, even more so than Redhat. They will want to host a nice Linux desktop related website. They would be exposing their products to the right audience.

SuSE is also well liked here, and I think many people will be pleased to have it be the new host of KDE-LOOK. Not to mention they have made a lot of contributions to Linux already, KDE League member, GNOME Foundation member, Xfree86 developer etc. However, some people think they have not given back enough, this would surely improve their image in everyone’s eyes.

I hope everything will work out!.

BTW: If SuSE can not host you guys. Try Lindows, they are nice and also share many of the same points I made for SuSE.

 Universities....

Good idea, but there is too much paperwork and liability involved with a university-sponsored site. Heads would roll and it wouldn't take too many girly wallpaper posts to get the sponsorship revoked.

We mirror many distributions, and it is hard as it is to explain to the administration that providing bandwitdh for mirroring is the least we can do to repay the Linux community.

 Mirrors are the key

I have roughly 400GB of bandwidth and could spare 100-200gb, but the key here is mirrors. You need to get a network of sysadmins willing to share the load.
