that you're looking into it. I agree with the sentiment and feelings behind the KDE-look petition. KDE-look is a great site and it was here when I was a KDE newbie and kde.themes.org was dead (it still is, really).

It's a shame that people want to spoil it for others, I cannot understand the mentality of people that would do such things. I hope you sort out some way to prevent or limit the malicious behaviour of the k1|)|)13z.

And thanks for making a great site. :)

 the right to anon*ty

"anonimity" -- didn't fit.

Does that exist anymore? That petition is a) ridiculous b) a waste of time for the mainter/s of this site. It actually reminds me a lot of the rocket icon fiasco for iKons. What exactly is it about anonymous voting and anonymous comments that's so bad? I'd agree that the system should prevent the same IP from voting twice, but if someone really has time to waste tricking the system (changing ips or whatever) to vote more than once, is it that big of a deal?! Is some author going to jump out of a window because he got a 53%?
Same goes for anonymous posting. Does it really matter if it was "cheesychester" or anonymous who said "suck my dick."?
And just why does someone have to "stand for his opinion"? We're not presenting thesis disertations here; no one needs to "stand" for anything. They have an opinion, however insane or rude you find it, they don't have to justify it.
So by forcing registration, you're gaining nothing: you place a burden on the users, who have to register, and on the system that needs to allow for a larger record of users.
I do think that submissions should be screened just to make sure their actual submissions and not someones hidden anatomy, but the rest should remain anonymous -- if the user wants it that way.

btw something I think would actually be useful, probably for all parties, would be that thumbnails on the main page linked to previews, rather than the content page; leaving the text part to do that. It would make things a lot quicker, and likely take a good degree of load off the server.

-anon, and proud of it!

The thing is, if people act like trolls, but they're identifable, you can just remove their accounts. Plus, the majority of trolls are just too damn stupid to actually get up and register. Just take a look at Slashdot, and another look and kuro5hin. The former allows anonymous posts, while the latter does not. Guess which one has a better S/N ratio?

So what? Discussion is the sine qua non (it's howto says to use latin) of kuro5hin, along with (almost obsesively) differentiating itself from slashdot.
But what kind of ratio shift do you think forcing registration will cause? Will we suddenly find ourselves bathing in enlightened comments about the latest splash screen?
I'm not going to register to have say "Looks great!," or "enough ripping windows and aqua off," or "can you post another version with higher res" or "u might wanna consider making the minimize button pink and bigger."
And I can live without "The effects of Window Decoration AquaXP on the educational system of south-east asia."
