 Fixed for me

I am running 8.1, so I don't quite know if this applies to you and those 8.2:

I FORCED the upgrade on my laptop and my desktop, both installs fine; the laptop had no such problem with sound as you do, but on my desktop Noatun does not run. Though XMMS does, which means arts still works underneath. Though I very much like Noatun to run since XMMS does not handle foreign character well.

I once visited Noatun page and it gave me a winded discussion of the problem occurs with Mandrake's distro since the company RPMed differently for few key multimedia libraries, the solution gave me a headache; by this time all of you read this probably guessed I use mostly canned distro packages; granted I do install few things now and then...

Things are really simple compare to the long winded solution above: just (optionally back it up) delete ~/.kde* -r -f then start KDE anew without configuration...

But there are some problems with the DCOP_server. I had to make a new user and to copy all data from the old one to the new one. But now it works. Liquid is great.
There are still some bugs, so the 3.0.1 will come soon.

Bad advice here. This didn't help at all on my system. Fresh SuSE 7.3 box installation. Kde2.2.2 works like a locomotive. So now what?

 Me, too...

I've got SuSE 7.3 and the KDE3 Start aborts with this Error:

There was an error setting up inter-process communications for KDE.
The message returned by the system was:

Could not read network connection list.
/home/user/DCOPserver_linux__0

Please check that the program 'dcopserver' is running."

I tried it again after I had deleted that files in /tmp, but that hadn't help.

And thats the worst:
Since I have KDE3, I'm not able to create new users!

What the hell can I do??

do it as mentioned

then
export $KDEDIR=/opt/kde3
then start kde with

That works fine (on SuSE 7.3)

I've got KDE3 final running on SuSE 7.3 too (kernel 2.4.16), the only thing is, I don't have sound.
There are no errors or nothing, but I can't play sound.

KDE3RC3 worked fine.... go figure.

Any ideas?

 Old Styles

by dave on: Apr 4 2002

Score 50%

With kde 2.2.2 I'd installed the Teax Style. Now with kde 3, in the control panel in the section "look and feel" there is a "Teax Trasparency" voice. If I click on it I get this error:
libkdeui.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

What I've to do to fix it?

.....
In the Window Deco there is also Qnix, that I'd installed before, it doesn't work now, what I've to do to remove it?

thanx

 make uninstall...

I had the same problem, and the only way I've found to get rid of the problem cleanly is to run "make uninstall" in the Teax/Qnix/Renodesk source tree.

You still have that source tree don't you... :-/

 Panel does not load

by livemore on: Apr 4 2002

Score 50%

I have upgraded my Mandrake 8.2 system with the RPM's provided. It worked great on one workstation, however I have not been able to get KDE3 to fully load on the other. I have created a new user, and KDE freezes with KPersonalizer when you select KDE3 at login. If you choose the default, KDE3 will begin to load, but has trouble restoring the session and the panel does not load properly (no icons, no klipper, no clock -- nothing). I can run programs using a right click and run command.

Any help would be appreciative.

 K Menu

by nicosoft on: Apr 4 2002

Score 50%

Mandrake's menu has no links after installation of the RPMs...
...So K Menu is empty :-(

just make a link from the "standard" directory to the kde3 directory:
ln -s /usr/share/applnk-mdk /opt/kde3/share/applnk-mdk

For the panel I had to create the links "by the hand" :-(

 panel crashing?

by iriXx on: Apr 17 2002

Score 50%

i've got a similiar problem to yours, the panel loads okay but after the screensaver kicks in, or sometimes randomly when i've got a few things on the go (and i have 1/2 gig of RAM so that shouldnt be a problem) the panel will crash and all the icons disappear. i can still work by right-clicking though. the only work-around i've managed is to set my init to level 3, so i login and do startx - then i can log out again if anything freezes and restart x. which seems to work... but it aint perfect.
i should mention im running kde3.0.3 on Mandrake 8.2
thanx
