I got this mail from Gibault Stephane, the developer of ManDVD and Manslide. He needs new innovative interface ideas for his apps.

Can you help him?

Hi

I'm the developper of ManDVD, Manslide and other. I currently start to port my apps to QT4. Manslide is a tool to make slideshow in 3D.

But now i want to port the DVD module to QT4 and i need ideas on interface (graphic example), type of UI (tutorial or more professionnal), ... and all good requests.

I need this because i'm a poor ;-) programmor with great ideas for the moment. And for this reason i would like to have a ton of suggestions.

Thanks if someone can help me

Stephane

 real screen estate

I have been hacking on the source code in the past, and one thing really annoyed me about your interfaces. They are NOT dynamic. It has a static non-resizable interface and this can be a pain for users with for example small screen resolutions.

 Non-dynamic UI

I would suggest to have dynamic GUI
with KDE style & color & icon support.

Then those could start being very intuitives. Yes, right now those aren't so bad but looks too much copies of other softwares. Most important thing is software does what promies. Now it could be good time to start using KDE:s styles/themes and port those great apps to it.

I dont like when it dont use KDE:s own open/save dialog but other ugly Qt dialoge.

I suggest taking style/theme ideas from k3b where users can have own themes for toolbars and have dynamic style.

Making manDVD and manSlideshow to use buttons and icons from KDE would make it much better looking than those static images what breaks it them from other KDE apps what looks like part of KDE.

just my ideas.

Using native kde font, style, HIG icon ans things like that, mandvd is actually a QT apps, not a kde-apps.

But i prefer that way mandvd work actually, kde apps are almost never simple, their is always 1000 option and the interface is over charged.

Really? Thats why i turn of those options what i dont need and i get working DE (for me!) and not masokist-DE what few developer wants users to use ;-)

ManDVD needs use more KDE API's to be better application. Like using KDE file dialogs and icons and when user is setting some options on other window, he can move that window and scale it so it isn't forced to be one size.

There should be more undo/redo functions so user can try different things, right now it is so simple to use that more complex menus are harder, almost impossible to do with normal way. When user makes error and notices it later, he needs go way back to that state where it has done and do all new things again.

In short words, ManDVD needs wizards and tabs where you can anytime change something and you could see effect.

I also would like to have a more dynamic Interface, but to have the possibility to draw links by mouse like in DVDlab Pro or to arrange menues and submenus graphically!

What about the support of layered menues and pure highlight menues as an option.

Or a ultra compatible mode - sometimes the dvds created with mandvd are not playable on some dvd palyers, but the one i made with dvdstuido pro works :/

anyway keep going, still very promising!

 Ideas

Hi, thanks for the great apps . My "wish list": the programs need a full screen mode , with resizable icons . I like the style of the mandvd/manslide , I would not change it , but it will be also good with a dynamic GUI with KDE style & color & icon support ( for example the user can choose between old style or kde stile ).When I add movies to a DVD-menu (to mandvd) , I would like to see that all movies ( at the DVD-menu ) show a preview ( for sxample for 15 scecons, then a loop ) . I want only 3 movies on a DVD-menu , when I have more there must be a button to open the next DVD-menu (with new backround ), and so on . That means, when I have 15 movies , it does not look good to put it on only 1 DVD-menu .
In Manslide the same with the GUI . More transitions , a second line for a soundtrak ( for every picture ). The option to decrease the sound length . Subtitles . 16:9 . When you add a effect , that looks like a movie ( it means in the slideshow change the picture to the effect ) .

 Ideas for slideshow

Hi,
it is so far really a great program, nevertheless I have some complains and ideas.
I still have some problems with the screen resolution. I have to move the window with ALT-Mouse to see all buttons.
Major feature requests:
- Add multiple sound tracks to slide show and fade between them
- Add additional text and text effects to a picture
- Select multiple pictures and make some changes on them (move, delete, effects,...)

Minor feature requests:
- Undo
- Add free effects based on GFX files

Thanks, also for this great tool already!

Hardy

Amazing program, just what I needed

like they all said dynamic. I have 1024x768 gnome and I can't see eevrything.

Maybe port it over to windows?

like they are saying as well, more professional level features. That would make it perfect.

You really should move to sourceforge, much better way to tell everyone about your projects.

 Menu text color

I find Mandvd great as it is. The only change I would like to see is that the menu text change color when selected rather than the colored line under the text. This would produce a more professional menu.
