Description:	Well, I think there are a lot of new themers who have trouble understanding gtkrc and think that the widget factory is some magical app that once you have that installed and you know how to use it theming becomes very easy. So this group I thought I'd start because I know there are a lot of experienced themers here with a lot of knowledge and a lot of new themers which have a lot of questions. This would be the place to discuss possible bugs and fixes and ideas and such. I think we need a place like this because: "No problem should ever have to be solved twice." Join if you have any knowledge in gtkrc or are interested in starting making themes and contributing to this site! bottom layer for pixmap button

Hey there! I've got a problem here that I can't solve. Is there any way to put something like a bottom layer "@bg_color" for transparent pixmap buttons? Made the buttons in my themes transparent to be able to recolor them, but now they don't display correctly in some cases (e.g. some websites etc.)
Would be great if someone knew a solution for this issue.

I'm modding the kde4.2 theme on here so that it has black buttons. The idea is to make a theme that emulates the new MacBook's interface.

I've been trying to figure out to get white text on black buttons, yet keep all other text in the theme the same as it is. I've added:

fg[NORMAL] = "#ffffff"
bg[NORMAL] = "#ffffff"
base[NORMAL] = "#ffffff"
text[NORMAL] = "#ffffff"

...under the button style, but as you can see from the screenshot, it's not entirely successful.

PLEASE HELP.

You see the menubar at the top and the text? The text appears to have a very slight highlight underneath.

Is there a way to emulate that in gtk?

As far as I know there is no way to
do that on gnome, also, the buttons
should work with that code you mentioned.

If I remember correctly it's the fg
(foreground) color that changes buttons
text.

Any help appreciated.

Modified a gtk2 theme everything is good but for one problem.

Firefox tool bars and drop-downs are not
complying to the theme style - in that the bg image is not showing up?
conversely the rollover effect image does ...

Yeah I feel your pain man!

During my gnome days I spended countless
hours trying to get that god-forsaken-miserable-excuse-for-a-browser to even
comply with my themes, with aboslutely
0 zero luck, I wish you the best of luck
tho, but be warned, it's one tricky app
to try to theme via gtk.

I found a solution for skinning firefox

Css edit extension and a little research in to the code syntax before editing the UserChrome.css. anyway here is a copy of my UserChrome.css:

If any of you decide to give it a try remember to store the images in the same folder as your userchrome.css
Some formats work better than others png
works well for me.

I realize that, but I want to know if there is a way to keep GTK from theming Firefox.

Say I want to install a GTK theme with dark buttons. Firefox inherits those buttons and it doesn't always look right.

How can I keep GTK from theming those buttons in Firefox? What widget class or name or whatever do I utilize to use the normal buttons?

Yes it is possible to do this. I use a separate iconsrc file and folder etc - but Rob was on the money with the css approach it offers more theming options.

I achieved the desired result I was looking for after a relatively painless excursion with CssEdit extension to simplify editing My userchrome.css

Theres loads of documentation out there I found this link helpful:

im pretty new to this but ive made a theme i like a lot but i cant figure out which setting controls the taskbar flash colour (as in when someone talks on pidgin i like the taskbar entry to pulsate in a certain colour)

any help?
