GTKRC (themes)

Artwork
Description:

Well, I think there are a lot of new themers who have
trouble understanding gtkrc and think that the widget
factory is some magical app that once you have that
installed and you know how to use it theming becomes
very easy.

So this group I thought I'd start because I know there
are a lot of experienced themers here with a lot of
knowledge and a lot of new themers which have a lot
of questions.

This would be the place to discuss possible bugs
and fixes and ideas and such.

I think we need a place like this because:
"No problem should ever have to be solved twice."

Join if you have any knowledge in gtkrc or are interested
in starting making themes and contributing to this
site!

Useful links:

Object hierarchy (very useful for figuring out how to assign different classes and widgets and for figuring out why things got messed up during your last edit): http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/stable/ch01.html

Nice set of useful links on a number of topic: http://live.gnome.org/GnomeArt/Tutorials/UsefulLinks

Well linked theming tutorial: http://live.gnome.org/GnomeArt/Tutorials/GtkThemes

Yet another guide to theming: http://orford.org/gtk/

Another great set of links (some to the ones above, but there are more): http://www.gtk.org/documentation.html

You can spend a lot of time clicking around live.gnome.org's stuff and get a lot of really useful information.

Sorry I thought it was a dark theme, that was for a dark theme but just change the colour to fit at the best with your colour scheme.

hi, once i had to apply some settings to the panel's tomboy-applet and i did it like this:
widget "*TomboyApp*" style "panel"

another time i had to apply some settings to tomboy's tool-bar, and that i did it like this:
widget_class "*Tomboy*Toolbar*" style "tom-toolbar"

but of course, this with fiddling around till it worked, hehe..

hope this info helps..

I think that's the way.
But I still can't find pager's name and I don't know what attributes I can use to modify its size and look...

are you talking about the Workspace Switcher 2.24.XX ?

because if yes,
it is using the selected / active / normal base or bg colors.

Thanks!
It works!
Widget "*Pager*" is the one!
Setting x and y thickness to 0 will disable ugly border lines around workspace's fields.

good news on ugly white shadow

by JohnnyJu on: Dec 17 2008

hello everyone,
recently i posted a question here regarding the ugly white shadows on insensitive text/icons, which loks awful specially on dark themes.

now i discovered something which i want to share with you:

i am using pixmap and murrine-engine.

everything that is listed as "widget_class" turns on ugly shadows.

if there is something like
widget_class "*Nautilus*Blabla*" style "toolbar"
than nautilus gets ugly white shadows on toolbar.

if there is something like
widget_class "*Tomboy*" style "menubar"
than tomboy gets ugly white shadows on menubar.

and so on.
it was quite a job to get everything set without as many "widget_class" as possible, but it is possible through "widget" and "class" and i got now a nice dark theme without ugly white shadows.

check your themes!
it is worth it.

 GtkTreeView Row Transparency

I want to set the background color of the rows to be transparent so that I can see the widget behind it.

Does anybody know if this is possible?
Native to GTK? Pixmap? If so, how?

This is important for a GDM project.
