well i just like to say having a 100% open source project like SUSE is great now i never used it but it's something that sends a big message to Microsoft and apple
AppArmor: gives certain applications rights based on how they run and interact with the environment.
YaST: a system management application which openSUSE uses as a Control Center.
Xen, VirtualBox, K virtual machine and Qemu: virtualization software
KDE (extended with such tools as Kickoff and KNetworkManager): a desktop environment.
GNOME: a desktop environment.
Compiz Fusion: a 3D desktop that runs on XGL or AIGLX.
Beagle: desktop search
OpenOffice.org: productivity suite
as you may see it's just like KDE orUBUNTU so it can really use some help.

Opensuse is a great distro, i've used Suse for a long time. The only thing that doen't fit my requiriments ( hi skills ) is good and directly editable rules. using the sysconfig sometimes is very panDemoniac

mybe PC sometimes MAC quite Linux , but always just Matteo !

Maybe YaST have to be more userfriendly!
2 years of using didn't help me make my TV-Tuner send sound via PCI-slot... etc.
If you don't know how to make anything work using "sudo kate" - YaST don't help... ;)

The openSUSE bugzilla is handled by Novell and has a Novell domain bugs.novell.com. The url bugs.opensuse.org gets forwarded to the openSUSE wiki article on how to submit a bug report http://en.opensuse.org/Submit_a_Bug.

The only thing i am actually missing is some nice possiblity to type japanese text but that is more an missing KDE4 Feature than an missing openSUSE Feature.

This is hands down the sleekest, most polished looking and most beautiful Linux Distribution I've seen. I love the color scheme the logo, fonts, menus etc. It's simply beautiful. But it needs some work on the usability department. Especially the drivers department. I want to pop up the live disk and see compiz fusion running automatically and the wifi card working. Like Ubuntu.

I hope openSUSE gets those abilities by 11.1. At least give me the option to automatically install them. Like a notification or something.

I replaced Ubuntu for openSUSE after lot of distro hopping. I've tried Fedora, Ubuntu and Mint, Mandriva, Debian, Mepis, PCLinuxOS and finally Arch (never finished installig it because it's too hard for me).

I know all of these distros are very good but I never got them running perfectly. The only distro that runs everything out of the box is Ubuntu, but it drops me to the BusyBox screen of doom and I had to type "exit" every time I turned on the laptop which is not sleek at all or in the kernel parameters type "all_generic_ide" and wait like a 1 minute delay which suck's.

After all the research something made me to come back to SUSE, the great debate was between Fedora 10 and openSUSE 11.1 beta 5, but Fedora wasn't my thing and SUSE had this "charm" that said "use me!!!" all over the live cd. So I gave it anothe try, this time 11.0 i586 and got the Ati video drivers running and now I'm using it and I'm in love with it and can't wait for 11.1.


Thank God for Linux!!!

The YaST Qt interface is the weak point imo.
Just take a look at it, the "settings manager" itself is written in Qt3 even if all modules are written in Qt4.

What would be good is an integration of YaST into systemsettings, perhaps by adding another tab called YaST?

I mean, just take a look at the gnome-flavour of the YaST control-center, everything blends in well with the desktop and looks very professional... in KDE it just looks... bad.

I also don't know if it is a problem with YaST's own toolkit wrapper, but YaST won't render the Oxygen style properly (the gradient mainly).

I know it's silly, but this is the biggest reason I dislike openSUSE.
Still I come back to it over and over - because in the end it's the best distro.

No, it is not a vain comment. I think you are totally right.

Most of us may be friends of editing /etc/sysconfig/* by hand or disabling the autoconfig in its entirety, we are all right.

There is even the zypper CLI as a nice addition for handling the package install process and the various tools offered inside the rpm tool suite. That ncurses version of yast is great also.

However most users will kill themselves, feel discouraged to use or switch to OpenSUSE since its main configuration GUI utility dies miserably most of the times.

For them, that speaks a lot I think. And I don't blame them.

I have been here for I while; however, since I joined the group, I haven't seen such big activity. Hey I see you are an Ambassor, maybe being an ambassor from Germany where openSUSE was born is more meaningful than somewhere else, isn't it?.

I once thought about becoming one, on my country; however I am about to leave for PhD. studies to Belgium and my profile goes more focused to Research so I wasn't sure if I was still applicable.

To give a bit of life to the forum, can you share how the experience of being an openSUSE ambassor is?
