So, What games do you play?

I do play Battle for Wesnoth (mostly singleplayer), Teeworlds (sometimes), Warcraft III (wined), Oblivion (wined), Clonk Rage (I do a lot of modding there) and sometimes little games like Zaz or Penguin Command.

I usually play Extreme Tux Racer, I can't get Super Tux Kart to work... it plays but it cant see the screen plainly because for some reason there are these blue bars (no they are not part of the car) that block out most of the screen. I have 512 MB RAM would that cause it?

Hi every linux gamer here!, I hope this little community will grow up just to show people that gaming on linux is possible!, yes, maybe you need some workaround, sometimes.. but life isn't real life without something wrong, is it??

I like to play AssaultCube, Sauerbraten, Wormux much of all.. but also Bomberclone (it remember me when I was a little boy with a C64!), Wesnoth, OpenArena et now AlienArena..
But unfortunately I must say that I haven't so much time to play, so in a week I can say that I play maybe 2 hours..
I'm not the best gamers of this group, I know..!

kudos for a very needed group!

gaming on linux is something that many
have very false ideas of, many think of
linux as console only it seems.

I guess a logical thing to do would be
to list a few of the most played games
in the description so users can easily
find games when they visit this group.

looks good :)

actually, the only game I ever play
is quake so I didn't even know about
90% of the games you listed...

...tho personally I would add a list of
buyable games for linux also, eg, q3a has
a buyable native linux variant :)

anyways, looks really good, clickable link
and a short description, that's the way it
should be.

Urban Terror is based on the Qt3 engine. Give it a try.

It is my main and almost unique game.

I happened to notice this group as while I was surfing Gnome-look.org and must admit that linux has lots of great games. Being a avid gamer myself, I decided to make a small website devoted to linux games. It's my shameless plug for my site.

http://trancelynx.com

It's a directory of linux games with reviews, rating and more. It's work in progress and any feedback is appreciated.

If this is regarded as spam, let me know and I will remove the comment.

Thanks

 Heroes of Newerth

by supportfsf on: Jan 20 2010

Score 50%

Hello people :-) Kudos on this group, as this is the dawn of the new GNU/Linux era in which we will need theese things :-)

Check out Heroes of newerth - http://heroesofnewerth.com/

The game is currently in closed beta (invitations needed ATM, followed (obviously :)) by a free open beta.) The game runs nativelly on GNU/Linux, they will even realease SDK - which is actually the Source Code (dont know the license on this yet, though)

The game is heavily inspired by DOTA - probably the most famous Warcraft III mod/map
The graphics is great, the genre is quite new - some call it MMORTS, which is not quite correct, if you know DOTA you know what i mean :-)

But this is nothing - the main thing for me (never really liked dota :D) is the fact that with the game, they will release a map editor and the above mentioned "SDK" as they call it. If you think about it - this game is based on a mod/map which was only possible because blizzard included a Map editor in warcraft III, which was win for them.
Now, the map editor will really be powerfull (not even speaking about the source code, or SDK as they call it) so you can imagine what can be created :-) You can practically create a new game in it. The engine is completely 3D, so anything is possible. Other cool thing for me - The company behind the game, S2, seems like a really good people(It's a small team, no blizzard, you can see it from their good attitude also :-). I can see it from their forums. If you look at their history, all of their games actually became free (as in beer) after a year or so since release. They made for example Savage 2 -you might know this one. (http://www.savage2.com) it is basically the same engine, so you can see one really can create anything with the editor.

All in all i just think this game will be a great succes (already is, and it is just closed beta) - even now at this phase there are tournaments with prizes (1500$ for example)
here, a new standard is emerging on the progaming scene.

And that the S2 seem to be a good people.

the game is 30$ one-time fee, included everything - meaning there are no any stupid "play for free, pay to actually enjoy the game". And the price is really resonable, they need to have many servers in different countries for lag-free game.

I already prepurchased to support them in creating games for Linux, as i think there is not much companies who are doing good things in this matter.

So hope you will like the game :) personally I'm most looking forward to HoN Tower defenses, if you know what I'm talking about :-) Oh and don't forget the RPG campaings, diablo style hack'n'slash mods, anything... It just seems great :-)

I'm sorry for the double-post, please delete the second.

Also, as I've read it it seems like some ad - well, sorry for that but I simply can't find any bad thing on it :)

at least you can see that I think it is really good game, considering the points i tried to point out :)

It is not closed beta anymore as far as I know.

I'm giving this a try and learning to play decently in my spare time.

Nice game and nice graphics.

ladies and gents, let me mention the game is now retail version, meaning the open beta has ended and you need to purchase the game to play it ATM. but that doesn't mean the game is TRULY finished - meaning new content is added permanently and will be for years. Now i am just waiting for the editor and SDK to come out - so the true fun will just begin :-D

 Games I play

by oOSplashOo on: Jan 20 2010

Score 50%

I've played World of warcraft, Tomb raider 3 , prince of persia 4. Now I stop with wine (because I want to encourage developers to make native games). So I play World of Goo (a fantastic game !) Yo Frankie , a fps of course ^^ with openarena in the first time and now Urban Terror (I love the gameplay and especially the walljumps )
I can't play more games because the free driver of my graphical card (radeonhd for my ati4850 HD)can't turn more games. For the moment of course.
