I'm trying razor-qt right now and I actually like it :)
I use it with kwin - don't like openbox anymore and didn't know kwin yet...It has some advantages over my other configuration of LXDE+Compiz and some handicaps, too, so for now, I got two independent partitions of Archlinux, one GTK and one QT; got especially two problems with razor:
Somehow my init-script won't start my conky (and I can't find any error :D) and I don't know what dock/panel I should use. AWN has it's problems with QT and, among other problems, on glx-dock my icons (uniwhite) look grainy and therefore ugly.
Still, I'd prefer a similar look and feel for my panel.

Apart from that, kwin won't use my mouse's additional buttons to manage some useful actions as compiz does...

just tried conky with razor and found i need to set 'own_window yes' in conky config for it to show up. trying sawfish as window manager as an alternative to openbox. kwin just seems a bit heavy.

The strange thing is, that conky itself is no problem, neither is the init-script (all the other programs are launched)...and same conky launched manually or by another script works perfectly, too... :D

It's called string sanitising, and it's not stupid.
"' are dangerous characters and are escaped upon processing for queries.

They could avoid crippling everything though, they've just not done a good job.

The hit to GL in e17 was massive even without compositing and I already had kdelibs for K3b so KDE seemed worth the try again. 4.8 is so much nicer than 4.6 - the screenie was half a dig at the gnome-shell interface. Built it this time without all the nepomuk (virtuoso) stuff so speed is great. Can switch to openbox for GL games.

Yeah, I know: KDE fanboy. But 4.8 really is good.

Yeah personally I've found kde to be the only usable
desktop/window system for linux. Kde fanboy or not
but kde simply offers more functionality then anything
else. Ofc if you are a gay homosexual then maybe
somekinda terminal - to launch apps and text based
panel to see running tasks to make sure that the
ram you've paid for never gets used. Anybody with
5+ braincells would notice that kde is the only
solution for desktop linux.

Personally I have a cpu with 4 cores and 4 gb of
ram so speed hasn't been an issue for me for a
very long time :)

I mean, do you have somekinda pentium II with
8mb of ram or what is the problem?

KDE is just the prettiest of the big three, but I honestly find KDE specific applications to compare horribly to their GTK counterparts.

Also, new screenshot. I love cycling wallpapers.

I run LinuxFromScratch so at first there's nothing but consoles and terminals. Never needed/wanted Mono. KDE 4.8 runs at least as well as Gnome 3.2 on this meagre P4, is perfectly stable, and not laggy at all.

As for apps: KDE vs Gnome apps - KDE apps are the go. But with GTK vs QT apps - different story. Most QT apps I've come across feel only half finished.

But to each their own.

Nice ponies.

I mean, if gnome gives you all functionality you
need? You can't have too high demands then :D

Learn to not smell like a fanboy? I care? no?

If I smell like a fanboy or not is besides the point,
kde simply is the only usable system for linux.

kde is pretty? Default kde lights up like a
damn christmas tree, that's not pretty.

Pretty much any linux default desktop looks like
crap.

I suppose I'm one of those "homosexuals" and proud of it. Although I do believe I have 5+ brain cells and still consider kde and gnome bloated.

I lean towards fluxbox because of its flexibility and efficiency not just in resource usage but also in terms of how quickly I can perform tasks. Writing my own menus and keyboard shortcuts allows me to customize my computing experience to my work flow and habits.

As for people trying to maximize their resource overhead, I like to have resources available to run multiple VMs, render 3d graphics and other resource intensive tasks. I don't believe my OS should eat up half my RAM and CPU cycles.
