Description:

KAlarm is a personal alarm scheduler which displays messages, executes commands, plays sounds or sends emails, at scheduled times. You can set up recurring alarms, or restrict alarms to working hours. Among its options, it allows you to choose the message font and color, whether to display an advance reminder, whether to speak the message or play a sound when it is displayed, whether to cancel the alarm if it can't be triggered on time (e.g. if you are logged out when it triggers).

You can optionally use multiple alarm calendars, or share calendars. This allows, for example, sharing alarm calendars between laptops and desktop computers.

As well as using the graphical interface to configure alarms, you can use the command line, and there is a DCOP interface for other applications.

KAlarm is part of the official KDE kdepim package. The KAlarm version for KDE 4 downloadable from here is an update to the current KDE 4 release. The KDE 3 package is no longer supported; the last released KDE 3 version is functionally the same as the KDE 4 2.6.2 version, and offers considerable improvements compared to the version supplied with KDE 3.5.10.

Changelog:

Version 2.9.0: This release adds a new option to execute a pre-alarm action before deferred alarms trigger, and new options to auto-hide the system tray icon when no alarms are due. The Try button in the audio alarm edit dialogue now toggles playback start and stop. There are other minor improvements and bug fixes. It includes a new Catalan translation of the handbook.

 mp3 support

Is there any way you could implement mp3 support so that i could set it to play an mp3 when an alarm goes off or better have it be able to play a playlist. Is there an app out already that will do this?

You can select an mp3 file using the Sound file button, if you manually type in the file name. I will change the file selector options to show mp3 files as well as wav files.

The new version 1.0.4 displays all types of sound file in the sound file selection dialogue (not just .wav files as before).

 repeat enh: stop

I really liked the repeat enhancement (and also the template) ! But as I am now using it, it would be even more nice if there was a way of stopping the sound and still seeing the alarm window. Like another button like "STOP SOUND".

I often use this kalarm to reminder me about conference calls and it is now great that even if I am not at the desk, I can hear the alarm when I come back (due to the great new REPEAT feature). But when I then start dialing the number, I would not like to listen the alarm anymore.

This is a good idea, which I'm sure other people would like to see too. I'll implement it for the final 1.1.0 version.

Version 1.1.0 Beta 3 which is now available, implements the 'stop sound' button in the alarm message window.

 graph dcop browser

I don't know if this is possible, but a graphical dcop browser as one of the actions when alarms ring would be great. This way, common users like myself could configure really amazing things.

Do you mean you want a DCOP browser to be displayed when the alarm triggers, instead of displaying a message, etc? I think that there is already a KDE DCOP display utility (called kdcop or something) - to do what you want, you could create a command alarm with a command line to activate it. Or have I misunderstood what you're wanting?

I rather think that he's asking for a graphical DCOP browser to choose an action to do on alarm. I mean, it's the only thing that makes sense to me :)

Ah, of course, that must be the meaning! It sounds like a good idea as an option under 'command alarm', although I'm not sure how easy it would be to implement. I'll add it to the wish list.

My Windows schedule was something like this:

Every 1 hour(s)from 18:52 for 728 minutes every Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun of every week, starting 01/07/2004

Can I recreate it with KAlarm? My version of KAlarm is 1.0.6.

The current version can't do this, but version 1.2, which should be out fairly soon, will let you set up a repetition within a recurrence.
