i think that amarok has matured a lot. i remember i always liked the interface but constant freezes forced me to write "killall amarokapp" several times a day as I listen to mp3 all the time.
Now with those 1.4.x versions it has become a lot more stable.

Changing songs is a bit slow - so maybe this should be improved so when You have to find a song among 15 in the list just by listening to the first sounds You don't get frustrated.

I really would like to move over to Amarok. But as long as Amaorak is not able to detect the song length of music files (mp3, ogg) properly I will use XMMS :-(

yep, you are right, problems exists

1. bad lenght, especialy with vbr mp3's and it really sucks

2. it is still easy to crash amarok, it hangs often when updating collection (sqlite)

3. using scroll to rewind/forward song is not working well


they need to work on it some more but it is still very good player, very addicting

Amarok is still in my "almost there" list. With Amarok I'm not able to listen to my *.ape files. Besides this Amarok is great.

Until recently I was only an occasional user of Linux(RH, SuSe, Ubuntu, Fedora), my preferred platform is Mac OS X. Now in addition to the Mac I'm using Mandriva2007, and extremely happy with this distro. Unless you are an absolute "techno-freak" it offers - to my mind - the best user-friendly "way-in" to the Linux platform.

Anyway to my point, Multimedia had often been a failing aspect of all Linux distro's(and to be honest in some areas there is still quite a way to go). Amarok is the best of the bunch of the packages delivered with Mandriva, it is stable, quick, & look's good. I imported a 34GB music library from my Mac(after first of all creating a separate library then converting from AAC to MP3). It achieved this without a single problem, and my music immediately available.

Great work guys!!! .......... How do I get this to support my iPod?? (the only failing aspect)

on AMD64 gentoo.

any clues why? nice to have for radiostations, that send via rtsp.

strange, because mplayer plays them fine, even without using win32codecs. AFAIK it used fmpeg/faad.
