Description:

Kate is a multi-document, multi-view text editor for KDE, shipped with the KDEBASE package. It features stuff like codefolding, syntaxhighlighting, dynamic word wrap, an embedded console, an extensive plugin interface and some prelimentary scripting support.

 bidi

Does it now support bidi, so we can get rid of kedit?

My favourite text editor under Windows is textpad, kate seems to provide the same functionality (no icon for "sort lines", no easy macro/compiler integration), so this is really wonderful. However I feel that the edit field is a little bit slow and seems to be refreshed several times.

Not yet, it's in alpha state.

bidi is alpha, won't ship with kde 3.2, but beside that, kate 2.2, which ships with the next kde version should be much faster than the current kate 2.1

I have been having problems with kate:
Qt: 3.1.1
KDE: 3.1-10 Red Hat
Kate: 2.1
every time I start it up. Id does not respond and the only way to get rid of it is to kill it's PID. I would like to upgrade to the latest kate w/o having to reinstall the entire kde.

I have not found the source for Kate anywhere... why is it not out there?

I do not like having to use kwrite with 15-20 files of code to parse through switching back and forth.

Is the source somewhere I'm just not looking?

p.s. Is there a log or something that might tell me what Kate is doing that's locking it up?

 Search & Replace

by testerus on: Apr 30 2004

For me the weakest point is Search and Replace in multiple files (e.g. all files in a directory).

Is there a timeframe for this feature? Are there other editors that can do this easily? (no, I am not going to use emacs)

Hello,

Just a message to congratulate you !

I love the Kate editor !
In only few versions it has became a very powerful editor, now used in pretty all applications that need editor (in addition with KDevelop and its KMDI that is also became a standard on KDE, and the also powerful tabbing mode now used in some applications).

KDE is very good !
Good for health to eat it ;-)

Thank you.

 Execute script

by msemtd on: May 13 2004

I tried Kate for the first time today as I wrote a little Perl script. The main thing I noticed was that in order to test my script I had to reach for the mouse, open the terminal emulator (which seems to auto-hide when I switch back to the editor), use the up key to select the previous command, and then execute with return. How about a key (such as F5 - currently seems to refresh) to execute the current script?
