Description:

Apollon - the greek god of music, mp3s, and videos! Apollon is a KDE-based client for the p2p-protocol giFT (OpenFT, FastTrack(Kazaa!), Gnutella, OpenNap) It is very userfriendly, intuitively, offers an inline Mediaplayer for previews of downloaded files, etc etc

For further questions and support please contact us either on
apollon-devel@lists.sourceforge.net
or irc.freenode.net#apollon.
That little forum below is not a help/support/bug-forum, imho.

 What?

Score 50%

Only 65%?
Hope this still rises.
Folks, Apollon really does
deserve more IMHO.
I especially like the cool
KDE integration. You can
just go on with your other apps
and you get a bubble message above
the tray whenever sth. is completed.
And Apollon is really user-friendly
and therefore a true KDE app:
No geeky settings. It's all quite
straightforward. An edonkey-plugin
for gift is still on my wish-list
however. That would be just great.

does anyone else notice that the reults that gift-fasttrack finds are not very good (in number of results) compared to kazaa?

I can recommend letting Apollon
run for a while. It gets better
then.
Furthermore my experience is that
Kazaa often shows a bit more results
but when I try to download from
them it often fails. Apollon seems
a bit more reliable and searches
the Gnutella protocol, too. It all
depends on what you are looking for.
It's good for the main stream things.
If you want very rare files
however you should better use "amule"
though.

Actually ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC results. Can't find anything :(.. Been looking for Scriabin and other classical composers and managed to find a track or 2 with gift-curs and nothing with Apollon. Not sure if Apollon is to blame, but the search-more feature is totally useless, just says 0 results found after less than a second after clicking it.. Unfortunately cannot rate this program as good :(

apollon and gift-curs use the exact same engine, the gift-daemon. There is nothing more to say. You can't blame Apollon for that. I just searched for Scriabin, too. OpenFT gave me 47 hits within 2 seconds.

AFAIK the OpenNap-plugin is search
only. You can't download
sth. so it's useless ATM

it seems that the uic didn't create the header and source of preferences.ui.

you can create them manually:

#uic preferences.ui -o preferences.h
#uic preferences.ui -i preferences.h -o preferences.cpp

is your $QTDIR/bin part of your $PATH?

I think this little forum is not supposed to be a support-forum. In case of problems, please contact us on our mailinglist apollon-devel@lists.sourceforge.net
or on irc.freenode.net#apollon

Before compiling Apollon on FreeBSD, you need to install net/gift, net/gift-openft, net/gift-fasttrack and net/gift-gnutella from the ports or just fetch the binaries (pkg_add -r gift etc.)!

After that, its rather simple.

cd apollon-0.9.2

./configure --prefix=/usr/local --with-extra-includes=/usr/local/include --with-extra-libraries=/usr/local/libs

gmake

su

gmake install

I will try to get some spare time and submit apollon and several other apps to the ports tree. Good luck till then!

Linux is for people that hate windows; BSD is for people that love Unix!

 very nice

This is a very nice app, although I don't like the new icon.

(To the question above:) The reason you get more results with the Kazaa network is simply because there are more users on that network than on the gift-fasttrack network. For example, if I look at the number of users now, there are just over 1000 on the gift-fasttrack network, and over 1 million on Kazaa. (Which explains a lot :-)

nope. gift-fasttrack connects to the 'real' FastTrack-network, which is kazaa. And Apollon shows me here 2.9 million users.
