Theology is a perfectly respectable field of inquiry, but it cannot be called a science. It doesn't use the scientific method, and it does not treat its data skeptically.

Yes, but remember than not everybody studies the Bible from a theological point of view. It can also be studied from a historical-critical point of view. The most common secular model for analyzing the old testament is in fact known as the Documentary Hypothesis, and can be tested, verified, and falsified.

Theology is a science? Is history a science? When you say theology, do you mean "comparative religion" or do you mean "the study of God?" The latter cannot be a science because God is not empirically observable.

However, I'll assume you mean the former. You don't provide any information in your blurb about which translations are used. Is the Hebrew taken from the Masoretic text? Is the English translated from the Masoretic, the Septaguint or from the Vulgate? Are the translations recent or historical? What other tools for comparative religion do you provide? This is the information that "scientists" of comparative religion need to know.

Whatever field this belongs in, I'm glad it's here - thanks! Bible study programs are an increasingly selling application for Windows and Mac OSX, and since starting to use Linux seriously I've had to use an online one whenever I wanted access to the powerful computer functions that flicking through the pages doesn't always allow.

It does appear that this has been written for Christian study, so perhaps it would have been better in Education or other software. But since it doesn't clearly fit into any category, give the author a break - it's an important app, which will have a huge uptake with the increasing use of Linux (remember the Bible is by far the best selling book in the world, and always has been. Even if you don't believe in it).

Every born-again christian Linux/KDE-user has an obligation to pray over these programs, and to pray for the many muslim KDE-users. Jesus Christ gave his life for them, so that they should not perish but have everlasting life. "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (Eph. 6:12)

If you see darkness entering the Linux/computer scene, then you have yourself to blame. The blessing of free software is not something to take for granted - of course, you know the situation in Europe. Unless you pray...

There is a need for a Bible study program, for what The GIMP is for graphic editors.

I have a vision of a plugin-based Bibleprogram, which can be for studying the Word of God for what The GIMP is for graphics, integrated into the KDE-environment, in the kicker, and everything.

If you believe I'm some sort of a "religious fanatic", then let me just say you this: I'm an ordinary geek which was saved just two years ago. You can live by atheism, but it does not hold to die on! "For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness." (1 Cor. 3:19)

Just because there's etxt found from a while back doesn't prove anything. Even some researchers disagree wildly on the findings they have looked through this book.

No truer a sentiment. Books are nice, but they have no ethereal existance whatsoever.

"I read a book, therefore iam, therefore God exists, therefore all religion is wrong except christianity" is the path you seem to be taking.
