Description:

Gwenview is a fast and easy to use image viewer/browser for KDE.

All common image formats are supported, such as PNG (including transparency), JPEG (including EXIF tags and lossless transformations), GIF (images as well as animations), XCF (Gimp image format), BMP, XPM and others.

Since 1.3.91, Gwenview can also view SVG images and play videos.

Standard features include slideshow, fullscreen view, image thumbnails, drag'n'drop, image zoom, full network transparency using the KIO framework, including basic file operations and browsing in compressed archives, non-blocking GUI with adjustable views.

Gwenview also provides image and directory KParts components for use e.g. in Konqueror.

Additional features, such as image renaming, comparing, converting, batch processing, HTML gallery and others are provided by the KIPI image framework.

Changelog:

# New features:

- Settings in the dialog to edit the thumbnail view details are now directly applied, no need to click "Apply" anymore.

- OSD can now display more image information: aperture, focal length, iso and exposure time. Patch by Carles Pina i Estany.

# Fixes:

- Bug 123516: After renaming, thumbnail panel is not updated

- Bug 138467: Crash in Exiv2 readMetadata when reading image saved in Photoshop

- Bug 131162: Autorotate images preference setting is forgotten

- Bug 132556: Gwenview asks to save the wrong file if the modified file is read-only

- Bug 111641: When several printing images in a row, "Keep Ratio" keeps ratio of first image

- Avoid crash when viewing extremely large images.

- Fix optimization compiler flags being disabled for scaling code.

- In fullscreen mode, make sure the cursor does not come back after moving to the next image. Patch by Carles Pina i Estany.

- Bug 130511: In the KParts, make Gwenview translations the active one, to avoid using KDELibs instead.

 re error

Ive got the same problem.my system is suse 9.0 plain vanilla up to date on all patches , Ive tried several precompiled rpm's (including 2 from suse's own ftp) Ive tried rebuilding
a source rpm and building from tarball
the precompiled rpms install fine with either yast , or rpm from console but give that error when run from console
from gui the icon is in the start menu
but when clicked it just blinks for about 40 sec then dissapears and nothing happens. One build from source got as far as starting to build gwenview in /tmp/build/.... before erroring out and orphaning the directory with out installing. THAT one works ( sortof the build was not complete) but has to be started by finding the binary with konqueror and
doubleclicking on it.I think the problem is in the build speck file but I dont have the expertise to find it.I sure would like some suggestions. ;) ron

 Embedded previews

I take many pix w/ a digicam...

I like the features of gwenview, and would use it to the exclusion of mosfet's pixieplus were it not for the following:

In pixieplus, I have the ability to load the embedded previews in the jpgs.

I have not found how to do that in gwenview, so it takes a long time on my 1998-vintage box to get my previews in gewnview.

Is this function available in gwenview?

Where do I specify "use embedded previews" for my jpegs?

Thanks!

 Drag drop anyone?

Why cant I drag an image from konqueror to gwenview and have the image display? is it really that rare to want to be able to do that?

I guess thats the only reason I keep gtk + gqview, hope this function is added some time soon.

Works here now without problems. Drag into preview area to view, or drag into file area to move/copy.

(Some months passed, I know)

I've made an ebuild for the new 1.1.3 version. Can be downloaded from my site http://flameeyes.web.ctonet.it/ as usual.

Thanks. And there are still few things to be done to make it even a bit faster.

Nice to see gwenview mature over time :-)

The only thing that I still dislike is your custom hand cursor over the preview image. In times of X cursor themes this looks quite outdated.

I replaced them (in the sources) with the standard ArrowCursor and SizeAllCursor when dragging. Looks better (IMO) and uses the current cursor theme.

Nevertheless, good work!

Kind regards,
Stefan
