Description:

Gwenview is a fast and easy to use image viewer/browser for KDE.

All common image formats are supported, such as PNG (including transparency), JPEG (including EXIF tags and lossless transformations), GIF (images as well as animations), XCF (Gimp image format), BMP, XPM and others.

Since 1.3.91, Gwenview can also view SVG images and play videos.

Standard features include slideshow, fullscreen view, image thumbnails, drag'n'drop, image zoom, full network transparency using the KIO framework, including basic file operations and browsing in compressed archives, non-blocking GUI with adjustable views.

Gwenview also provides image and directory KParts components for use e.g. in Konqueror.

Additional features, such as image renaming, comparing, converting, batch processing, HTML gallery and others are provided by the KIPI image framework.

Changelog:

# New features:

- Settings in the dialog to edit the thumbnail view details are now directly applied, no need to click "Apply" anymore.

- OSD can now display more image information: aperture, focal length, iso and exposure time. Patch by Carles Pina i Estany.

# Fixes:

- Bug 123516: After renaming, thumbnail panel is not updated

- Bug 138467: Crash in Exiv2 readMetadata when reading image saved in Photoshop

- Bug 131162: Autorotate images preference setting is forgotten

- Bug 132556: Gwenview asks to save the wrong file if the modified file is read-only

- Bug 111641: When several printing images in a row, "Keep Ratio" keeps ratio of first image

- Avoid crash when viewing extremely large images.

- Fix optimization compiler flags being disabled for scaling code.

- In fullscreen mode, make sure the cursor does not come back after moving to the next image. Patch by Carles Pina i Estany.

- Bug 130511: In the KParts, make Gwenview translations the active one, to avoid using KDELibs instead.

 Great Imageviewer!

It's truly the Image Viewer I was looking for!
The ACDSee window style is pratical and complete.

The only thing I don't love completely, it's the full-screen mode when double-clicking on an image.. I think a windowed mode for see images is faster for quick looks.

 suggestion

When using gwenview I always have smoothscale on so that the resized images look better. The one problem I have run into that could easily be fixed is very slow response using autozoom when resizing the various docked windows in gwenview.

I see two ways to fix this:

1) you could temporarily disable smoothscale while the mouse is resizing the windows.

2) in most cases when i resize windows, the size of the previewed image doesn't even change at all (in autozoom mode when shrinking the dimension which has extra space). in this situation, resizing of the image could/should be avoided all together.

I would love to see this addition in gwenview!

Well the application surely rocks....
But there is one small yet big thing missing here .... While viewing an image i cannot scroll tho an image up and down with the keyboard. I still have to drag the image with the mouse... Guess u guys might fix it up fast, cos other than that i dont find any problem with this beauty .....

 install problems

Why doesn't my downloaded version look like your screenshot? I have no last image/next image buttons, no thumbnails & no options in configure gwenview or configue toolbars for any such additions. Also, configure toolbars just doesn't work, I go through the steps to make changes & nothing happens. Also I have no help file ("handbook").
I tried both the 'stable' v1.0.1 and the 'unstable' v1.1.0. Using mandrake 9.2, the configure, make, make install seemed to go without any problems.

Maybe you did not use the right prefix? You must run configure like this:
./configure --prefix=/where/kde/is/installed

On Mandrake 9.2 you should use --prefix=/usr. You can also use the binary RPMs made by Angelo, they are available from the download page of the web site.

I had the same problem, only on 9.1, but dloading rpm solved it, real shame those precompiled shit works better. So try that, google should find it with no trouble.

 Feature request

I have yet to see an image-viewer on linux apart from a couple of screensavers which allow you to turn on 'random order' of the images for a slideshow. I'd really like to be able to randomize my slideshows sometimes.
Other than that, great app!

Looks like you've got linking problems. Maybe you tried to use a precompiled package which was not adapted to your machine? You should try to rebuild Gwenview.

Hi,

I have only the first part of the error:
QMetaObject::findSignal:GVFileDetailView: Conflict with QListView::doubleClicked(QListViewItem*,const QPoint&,int)

I have recompiled (emerged as I am on Gentoo) Gwenview several times now. I think this started with my upgrade to Qt 3.3.0 (In the course of this I also reemerged my whole KDE 3.2). I've noticed that I don't get exif tag reading anymore in Gwenview, and I blame this error for it. Perhaps some Qt incompatibility?
