Description:

LyX is a document processor that encourages an approach to writing based on the structure of your documents, not their appearance.

LyX is for people that write and want their writing to look great, right out of the box. No more endless tinkering with formatting details, 'finger painting' font attributes or fuzzing around with page boundaries. You just write. In the background, Prof. Knuth's legendary TeX typesetting engine makes you look good.

On screen, LyX looks like any word processor; its printed output -- or richly cross-referenced PDF, just as readily produced -- looks like nothing else. Gone are the days of industrially bland .docs, all looking similarly not-quite-right, yet coming out unpredictably different on different printer drivers. Gone are the crashes 'eating' your dissertation the evening before going to press.

LyX is stable and fully featured. It is a multi-platform, fully internationalized application running natively on Unix/Linux and the Macintosh and modern Windows platforms.

NOTE: Please use the project's mailing lists and tracker for bug reports and feedback.

Changelog:

CHANGES in 2.2.0:
==================

With this release, LyX celebrates 20 years of existence. The 2.2 series
has a rich set of new features compared to the current stable series.

LyX 2.2.0 is the culmination of two years of hard work. An overview

 KDe integration

But it is not very well integrated into KDe isn't it?

there were an early KDE1.x-Verion of Lyx (KLyx) written by one of the KDe Maintainers (I think M. Ettrich but I`m not shure). This app was good...

It's not a KDE application (and it doesn't aim to). LyX in fact follows a "GUI independent approach", separating the core from the frontend(s). Currently, two frontends are completed: xforms and qt[2|3], a gtk(mm)2 frontend is beeing developped (but far from finished). Actually, it would be a breeze to add a "native KDE" frontend which could share the basics with the qt frontend but add some KDE goodies. But so far noone has considered it important enough to begin such a task.

I made some 2D and 3D icons for Lyx. http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=15961

At first I made this just for me, but I just want to have your opinion.

Thx

Raph

I like your icons, I think they are an improvement over the standard.

Do you think you could make some new icons for the program itself, those old open, TeX, save etc. icons would certainly benefit from some new artwork.

Improvement over standard? Actually there are new Lyx icons for the at the Lyx-dev page, which look nice and match KDE not bad. i think they will appear in the new version 1.4. And your lyx will look just like this: http://www.lyx.hu/news/

For now, since they are still not in 1.3.6 you can just download them from http://www.lyx.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/lyx-devel/lib/
and put into your HOME/name/.lyx/images folder and you have a much nicer looking lyx interface.

 Plans for Unicode?

Is Unicode support planned? It's not so convenient to be limited to whatever language you choose + English.
