Description:

KVIrc is a free portable Internet Relay Chat client based on the excellent Qt GUI toolkit. KVirc is being written by Szymon Stefanek and the KVIrc Development Team with the contribution of many IRC addicted developers around the world.

Changelog:

This release is the result of several months of testing, debugging, and improving. It includes Perl scripting support, drag and drop toolbar editing, better Unicode support (adaptive decoding engines and very flexible charset settings), an "Instant-Messenger-like" notifier window, a status bar with applets, micryption support, DCC bandwidth limits, and several scripting engine enhancements including translation capabilities and dcop communication calls.

 Well

by rgfree on: Jan 3 2004

basically a nice app.
The best native IRC app for KDE
in terms of functionality IMHO. Unfortunately two things are
bothering me:
1) The looks: This app really looks
like sh**. This is not just a nuisance
but a major usability concern.
Who can use all those weird looking
icons?? Why didn't they just use the
crystal icons? For many functions
a good replacement is available.
2) Non-Standard KDE behaviour:
Why can't I configure the toolbar
and keys like in any other KDE app?
3) A stupid bug is keeping me from
using this app and still using mIRC
via WINE: The media types settings
are extremely buggy. Whenever I
download sth. via DCC the assigned
app isn't run though I entered it
in the settings page.
4) There is no need for "Save Settings". It's rather confusing
when you change settings click on
*OK*(!!) and after a restart of
your app the settings are gone.
Not very user-friendly.

Well, these are the obvious things.
And they would be very easy to fix.
I always find it quite strange when
so many hours of hard work go into an
application and the programmers don't
seem to care the slightest bit if it's
looking professional usability-wise.

Wrong. I use kvirc too and i costumize it and it looks very nice.

CVS use hase new icons... the shots on homepage are old...
for example... here is a shot:

(My costumized kvirc)

This is possible...

> 3) A stupid bug is keeping me from using this app and still using mIRC via WINE: The media types settings are extremely buggy. Whenever I download sth. via DCC the assigned app isn't run though I entered it in the settings page.
The use of wine is a bad thing (If you can have a native app!).
Please submit bugs via bugtrack (http://bugtrack.kvirc.omnikron.net)
There is also a mailing list: http://www.kvirc.net/?id=mailinglist

Wrong. If you click ok the settings will be quickly applied.

I prefer to use the cvs and update it from time to time. (A release date for kvirc 3 is not planned yet but i think its ready ;) )
Feel free to visit us on irc.freenode.net or IRCnet at #kvirc.

You seriously think the screenshot
you made is an example of a
well-designed good-looking UI?????
Ummm, OK, fortunately the rest of KDE
doesn't look that way.
Sheesh...
Some things are just beyond me.

 I want a good IRC

Of the IRC clients for Linux that I have seen(I'm new to Linux), I prefer Kvirc. Why does it stay in beta stage so long? Is there a commercial or free or shareware IRC client that has all the goodies of a mIRC? ... and more?

I prefer the most recent version of Kvirc (beta3, apparently) or a very powerful IRC client. I had "Danger Script" under Windows (version of mIRC, in a sense) I want tiling function, and scripts for "sending flowers" etc.

 Wonderful!

I was running the Beta2 version, and while somewhat buggy, it was still my preferred irc client in Linux. I downloaded the new, final 3.0.0, and all I can say is, I'm in love! ;)

Now I just need to get busy and learn the scripting language so I can set up the same type things I was using in mIRC. :)

 Awesome app!!

This is the most fun and feature rich IRC application for kde. If only it had DCC behavior similar to mIRC (a must have for firewalled users), i could get rid of mIRC for good.
