This is a great application! It has replace gxine now; it is stable, usable and provides all the functionality of Xine that I need.

Thank you very much :)

... but what are the advantages over KPlayer ?

When will we see steps for an integration of the two applications ?

Is it able to record a Quicktime movie that comes from the net onto my hard drive ?

Yep it seems good, but we miss some informations ;)

... but what are the advantages over KPlayer?

Well, I haven't tried Kaffeine yet, but one advantage I see is that is has an equalizer. Especially if it doesn't use artsd.

On the other hand, I see having several separate top level windows as a major disadvantage.

When will we see steps for an integration of the two applications?

When someone with great design and coding skills comes in and does the integration. Neither I nor Jürgen seem to have any time to spend on that. So it is unlikely to ever happen, which is a pity because there is tons of duplicate effort going on here. Playlist support is one example of code that could have been written as a component and used by both programs.

Tried this out last night and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Needs some work on stability and I had to build the libdvdcss and libdvdread from scratch (as I downloaded the slack tgz) to get decryption working but, hey, still very easy.
Nice job.

A must try. I use it on Mandrake 9.2. I had to install xine-arts.

But now it totally rocks, plays mp3, avi. Cool interface, good playlist. Great app!

have you tried the visualization that comes with it? goom? it's very beautiful and very nice playing CD or e.g. internet-radio over it!!

i really like this tool --- maybe the most usefull frontend to watch dvd -- xine is a great library, but the GUI that comes natively with it is not that good

the difference kplayer and kaffeine: worlds: kplayer is using mplayer, kaffeine xinelib --- this says everything :-) (ever tried to watch a dvd with menus on mplayer? over xinelib it just works)

but i agree with the equalizer: it is not that user-friendly --- the problem is that the small bar-handlers are not that easy to catch with the mouse ... same for the timeline-handler; but that are details, that do not disturb using this tool i think

Hey Kaffeine supports Mplayer too...so some sort of exchange between two similar project would be good...IMHO the best frontend (but is for xine only) I've seen and used is gnome's Totem, it has the half of features compared to kaffeine but is fast and has a great gui, expecially for fullscreen mode.
