Description:

That's another multimedia app that i miss from KDE4. An analog/Digital TV viewer/recorder that it should support:

* Live TV Pausing
* Recording from analog/dvb tv tuner
* Manual/automatic scheduled recording
* "What's playing now" on channel list
* Real-time programme guide
* Current Channel/Programme/Movie Infos
* A nice and intuitive GUI

I dont like about idea to integrate all different media applications functionality to one application. Even that result would be awesome.

I want to keep musicplayer, videoplayer and photo management tools in different parts. More like Unix style on applications, one application does one thing and it does it very well, then you use pipe to make very complex "applications" so you get complex stuff done easily.

I still would like the idea to bundle the DVB features to mediaplayer, so it would be hidden when user does not have DVB device and when does, then the switch would happen easily.

Then we would get nice package of applications for main purposes, Amarok2 for music, this kind videoplayer for videos, digiKam for photographs, Dolphin for files, Konqueror for web and kopete for IM.

And still we could have competition going about other applications, if someone does not like the one of these, they can switch it to other one.

As I suggested in the first mockup about this kind DVB mockup, it does have points to be a own application. But if this kind applications can be joined, we really would get a videoapplication what would do for videos same as Amarok did for music collections and iPod for portable music players.

So in example, if I record something, I would like to find those recordings from video player database too, so I dont need to switch between two applications when managing videos.

Hopefully some developers see these great mockups and starts making a this kind video player for KDE4!

My idea is:
When you record something, it will be added into "KDE4 Media Player" database under a new tag named "Recorded Shows" and into "TV Viewer/Recorder" database.

or

Integration with KDE4 Media Player, by adding a button that changes mode (like in a real tv): Playing - Recording.

Both are good, the automatic tagging when the media is founded for other mediaplayers too trought KDE open dialog and the integration. I would take the integration because you have got the UI so simple and still feature rich so the DVB feature + database editor -features should not be so dificult to be added without making too complex UI for it. Then there could be only one videoplayer, like DVD+/-RW PVR recorder in reality ;-)

Please send these to Kaffeine mailintlist (or the forums) about it's developing. Hopefully Kaffeine developers would take your mockup as advice and make this kind application.

I suggested once a videoplayer + database + recorder, what would get all the video data from IMDB, add EPG info from program to recording and then push all these to database like Amarok is doing. You have just got everything so small and nice space, so it would look great on little bigger sized on screen. But on your minimal mockup version, shows that it has potential even to work on netbook machines ;-)

The design is cool, but the Kaffeine team are working on a Qt4 version. The qt3 version has those features.
