 love the wallpaper

love the wallpaper, and the way you have your dock!! its simply unique, and the first I've seen of its kind. I might have to adopt something like that if I ever decide to use AWN.

I found the wallpaper you use, but its not made for widescreen mode. Can you up a copy?

The wallpaper I use is and edited copy of Pepper-Project.
I made it widescreen with the GIMP and I removed that ugly tattoo on the girl's shoulder.

I am sure I cannot release the wallpaper as MY OWN creation, but I can simply link the edited version I made.
And please don't share it as YOUR OWN creation.

The download link are this ones, the first without the bottom bar, the second one is the one I am using:

thanks for the link to the wallpaper. Saves me from editing it myself. I'm using it at the moment. I always acknowledge others work, so you don't need to worry. Check out my theme.

 AWN Customization + Transparen

by johnnypip on: Sep 18 2008

Hey just a couple quick questions.

First I just want to say I love what you achieved here :) Given me some great sources for ideas.

Q1. How did you get the tiny blue arrowheads. My AWN only allows actual arrows, and with arrows disabled im getting ugly huge grey arrows on top of my icons. When enabled I get ugly huge blue arrows on top of my icons, no matter what settings I use.

Q2. How did you achieve the title bar transparency? I tried changing the /apps/gwd settings in gconf but doesn't seem to give results as nice as your own.

Thankyou in advance.

Let's start with the answer to Q1.
It's a matter of AWN settings.
I just put the mark on "tasks have arrows" within the Task Appearance tab.
Then, still within that tab, I gave the arrows the blue color you see within the scrrenshot.
Then, at last, I set the arrow offset to zero [making the arrows being locked to the bottom].

Now let's go on with Q2..
First of all, I have compiz effects enabled.
I don't think there is a way to get this result with metacity.
Well, now there's only an how-to.
Open your CompizConfig Settings Manager, then go to General Options > Opacity Settings.
Within the "Window Opacity" section, click on "New", then type near Opacity Window:

(type=Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu)

In the Opacity Window Values bar I set 80 percent to get the result you see in the screenshot.

If you have further questions, feel free to write a comment :)

Thanks for the answers :)

The opacity settings seem to work on my menus etc, but not window titlebars, strange.

Oh that is another setting!
I guess emerald.. I don't know. It's the default one for me [for windows in background].

Do you mind telling me what emerald theme you have then? Maybe posting it?

And, your conky config too :-)

I don'use emerald. The one you see in the screenshot is the DustTheme one.
And my conky.. it depends on your hardware configuration and the packages you have installed.
First be sure to have lmsensors installed and configured, then also hddtemp.
My .conkyrc file is available here:

Let me know if you have further questions :)

How then do you get the transparency on the title bar of windows?

The only transparency I get is on the panel.

I love this look :-)

Explosive0,

When using the metacity theme in Compiz Fusion, you're using the gtk-window-decorator plug-in. To alter it's transparency levels, open up the Configuration Editor, then open apps > gwd. Here you can alter the metacity_theme_active_opacity and metacity_theme_opacity levels and whether they shade or not.

Hope that helps.
